Hello everyone,
Here are some photos and a brief summary of how my IG army, the Tallarn 23rd, did at a local tournament this past weekend.
Here's a photo of my army:
Here's a photo of my HQ, Captain Scheherazade:
Tallarn 23rd Infantry Regiment, Alpha Company—Sentinel Recon Detachment
HQ
-Colonel Scheherazade’s Company Command Squad, lascannon, standard, vox, Astropath Zaib
ELITES
-Sergeant Sharif, (counts as Sly Marbo)=65
TROOPS 1--YELLOW PLATOON
-Captain Al’Rahem’sPlatoon Command Squad, 3 plasma guns, vox, Chimera=200
-1st Squad, meltagun, vox, 2 power axes, Commissar Mannerheim
-2nd Squad, meltagun, power axe
-3rd Squad, meltagun, power axe
TROOPS 2--RED PLATOON
-Lieutenant Jihad’s Platoon Command Squad, lascannon, plasma gun
-1st Squad, lascannon, plasma gun, vox, Commissar Guderian
-2nd Squad, lascannon, plasma gun
-3rdSquad, lascannon, plasma gun
TROOPS 3--DESERT BUZZARDS
-Abra’s Assassins, Penal Legion Squad
FAST ATTACKS
-Desert Wind, Vendetta
-Desert Scythes, 3 scout sentinels with multi-lasers
-Desert Scimitars, 3 scout sentinels with multi-lasers=
TERRAIN
-Widowmakers, Aegis Defense Line (50), quad gun (50)=100
Total points=1850
As you can see by the list, except for the Demolishers and Aegis, this list is designed to be a light scouting force. It scours the desert for the foe and then calls in the Demolishers and attacks.
Game 1 vs. Chip's Deldar
This was a fun game, but it pretty much went as you would expect it would given my poor performance in 6th ed. (30-some losses and 4 wins). In the end, I had about 10 or 11 infantry cowering on an objective in a corner while my opponent (having only lost a squad of bikers and a squad of dark eldar warriors to the outflanking platoon).
-Most fun moment of the match: Tying up a Wraithknight for 3 combat phases with a lowly sentinel squad (he rolled really poorly).
Here's a photo of my plucky little sentinels. The monster is a proxied wraithknight, it only cost my opponent $6 rather than $115for the GW wraithknight model.
Game 2 vs. Ed's Tau
Yay! My 5th win with the IG in 6th edition. This was a close game indeed and I owe the win to my firebase platoon and my Penal Legion, each of whom managed to grab an objective. I'd never faced Riptides before and my opponent had 2. Man those things are tough, I managed to take one out with lascannons though.
-Most fun moment of the match: We were playing hammer and anvil deployment. He had large kroot squad outflanking and on my Turn 2 I managed to outflank my penal legion, sentinels, and Al'Rahem platoon in such a manner that his kroot had to outflank on the other side of the board because I covered my long board edge with models (where they were charged and killed by another sentinel squad).
Here's a photo of sentinels, Al'Rahem's Blob, and the Penal Legion outflanking.
Game 3 vs. P.J.'s Deep-striking Space Wolves/Biker White Scars
I've only beaten one drop pod list and one SM bike list since drop pods and biker troops came into being back in the 2000s. This game was no different. He killed almost all of my army and I killed very little of his army.
-Most fun moment of the match: Demo-charging a drop squad with Marbo.
Here's a photo of some drop-podding marines (they were green Space Wolves)
All it all it was a very fun tournament. It was organized by our local gaming group, the Beltway Gamers (Rockville, MD, U.S). The organizers, Marc, Mike, Eric, and everyone else did a great job! Thanks to Dream Wizards for hosting this event and being an awesome local store! I managed to win best sportsman and 2nd best painted.
Here are some final pics:
Sentinels, Demolisher, and Vendetta

The combined for of Eldrad, the Baron, and the beastmasters' squad hit the IG line
