So the lads who I will be playing against genrally play 50 power point games. With having a 100% success rate (played one, won one), I need some advice for my next game.
I played a list with a bit of everything last time. I had three Leman Russ (punisher, exterminator, and standard), inf squad with chimera, inf squad on foot (both with plasma gun, missle launcher). Squad of 20 conscripts, squad of 5 rattlings, and two of the cheapest commanders available. What I failed on was deployment - it allowed deepstrikers to jump in behind. Something which I want to avoid happening again.
I have options of running most types of lists. Infantry heavy, or tank heavy. I want to always take two HQ and three troop choices for the bonus CP. But whats best to bulk out the force? Do I go full mobile infantry in chimeras (I have 8 available). Do I bulk out on three sets of conscripts, backed up with heavy weapons and special weapon squads and a couple of tanks? Or do I run with three infantry squads and as many tanks as I can manage? (3 and a Hellhound).
What do you guys think?

I would say keep it simple and run gunline. Put a Company Commander, Commissar, 2 infantry squads, and a squad of 20 conscripts in a battalion. Then run a spearhead with a tank commander, two russes, and a heavy weapon squad. That's 50 PL exactly, gives you 9CP total, and gives you plenty of flexibility as to what upgrade everything with. I'd suggest playing Cadian and running a command Punisher and two LRBTS or Executioners and giving the HW team mortars, lascannons, or missile launchers. Since you're going off of PL and not points, you can load up the tanks with heavy bolters for your infantry killing. Use the company commander to buff the HW teams, give the infantry squads flamers and run them out at objectives or use them with the conscripts as screens.

Thank you Reds, ill go with that for my next game. Just out of interest, would you run a heavy weapon in the infantry squad or keep lasguns and flamers? Also, before my last game, my mate recommended running with as many plasma weapons as possible? Would you advise this or not? If it makes any difference, the forces ill be mostly going up against are Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Tau, Nids, and Necrons.

Plasma is in a really good place for as right now; it's cheaper and safer than it ever was. Plus you can use the overcharge if you come across something really dangerous. It's just a good allround weapon.
Power levels aren't really used in my area, so I'm not sure how much you could stuff in there.
I personally start pretty much every list with 6 infantry squads (3 with las- or autocannons & 3 without heavy weapons) and 2 Company Commanders unless I'm playing at very low points. It gives you plenty of bodies to secure the deployment zone and bubblewrap some long range support. After that I tend to add some heavy hitters in the form of Russes or artillery, and I usually try to squeeze in a scout sentinel or two. It's a solid base to which you can add whatever you want for variation.
A couple of mechanized squads could certainly help with securing objectives, but I wouldn't field 8 chimeras (unless they have really low powerlevels) as they are quite costly and their damage output goes down the drain when they move.
