So I was thinking about geting into fantasy and was planning to do orcs and goblins. I got about 1/3 of the way through assembling my first box of basic orc boys and that was the end of it. I promised myself no to do anything that was going to feel like work.
So, I switched gears and started on an ork army for 40K. So far I have 1 mob of slugga boyz and 1 of shoota boyz, both about 18 strong, and of course a warboss in mega armor. Take a while to paint them but not sure once I am ready what to add in next.

An really nasty ork list i've seen is the Gretchin list of doom. In 1850 the guy had 250 models. And as an IG player your stomach sinks at the thought of being out numbered 5 to 1. Just a thought.

My tournament army @1700 pts included this..
Orc warboss 2x 30 Gretchins with slaver 4x 30 slugga boys, with nob, and 3 burnas each..
that was my entire force.. and had i not been drunk/hung over for day 2.. i would have placed better than 37th out of 100..
Use the fall back to your advantage by having one slugga squad behind to mob up into.. turn those 10 or so models running and grouping up with a 30 man one.. soon u will have a 50+ model mob running toward the enemy all fearless due to mob size.. really works wonders..
Cheers

Oh no I was just commenting on collecting Orks, I think gGrisnik's list is very nice Not much in the way of anti-tank though Gris seems to be the master of oddball armies lol.

LOL oddball armies rule mate LOL I always try to field things that scare others.. and yes it doesnt have a lot of anti tank long range.. but close range it rules.. what i didnt put in this list was the nob upgrades.. uge choppas can take out armor 11.. and the missle launchers and burnas work well againest anything larger.. but mostly its to swarm over the enemy and make him scared of that many models.. all in all.. that army list is 20-5-6 in the time frame of 2 yrs of playing it.. and that is againest all types of armies.. i guess i should post up my chaos army too then huh? its kinda out there as well..

Do use lots of gretchins, warbike (very dangerous if they get too close: 3 shoots twin linked per bike during shooting phse and 3 more during assault phase....nasty) Do take meckboys with custom field: gives you a 5+ cover save... My brother uses this every time, it is very painful not forgetting the old leman russ....and cyborks in a truck!!!

I find that a Warboss with 'eavy armour, iron gob, bosspole, choppa and power klaw is the way to go. Slugga boyz are the coolest CC troops choice in the game and make sure you give them lots of burnas.

get trukk boys...alogn with a souped up warboss and retinue...give em a trukk and ride them up a flank into the enemy....causes a real distraction as ure opponent will see 2 trukks zooming up 24" on his left...causing his forces to divert to the oncoming threat...whilst ure mobs just runs up the field havin less fire to deal with. + with the tooled up boss and retinue as well as 10 boyz...its gna be hard to ignore...let alone kill

I agree with the dual trukk method down one side.. it does work.. along with the bikers.. if you can get them take them.. but dont forget that Orks are a mass army.. not a specialized army.. even with 2 trukks full of tooled up Orks.. one or 2 good ordinance or concentrated fire and they will go bye bye very quickly.. more is better.. or go full on speed freaks and try your best to get to close combat very very quick on the enemy.. 6 trukks and 3 units of bikes will cause most armies to panic..
Cheers Gris
