Interestingly enough my Tau friend and I played against a nid player who ran a 'zilla list.
It...was...rape.
Definitely take Lascannons and with the new "Bring it Down!" order you have no excuse not to kill 'em all.
And just for funzies I charged the last fex...Yeah Guardsmen killed his ccfex. Thank God Sgts get 3 attacks off the charge. Tyranids got beaten by numbers, ironic.

Um, dude, I think sergeants get 4 attacks when charging. *Grins maliciously as he realizes the effect of guard sergeants with power swords*

lol missile launchers should be a staple weapon for any army they're - cheap - reliable - has krak AND frag - they are also available to most squads (kraks are also available to tanks as well)

I remember in th old rules, before synapse creatures were immune to instant death, I ran a smurf army against 3 'fexes, 2 tyrants and a shmit-load of gaunts. My librarian massacred his merry way across 2 of the 'fexes and both tyrants with his force weapon all on his own. The last fex kicked his head in though...

Fex's doin't need the immune to instant death. Most I run into have toughness 7 to begin with.

There are other things that can cause Instant Death besides S double T. Most notably the Force Weapons that Kavil85th mentioned and Eldar Wraithguns, but there are a few others as well.

may i introduce the new executioner as a great weapon for killing the nids, though expensive there 3 shot plasma cannon and with a las cannon is great @ giving you the ability to reach out and touch his nidzilla's long before they can bring the pain. also may i suggest our old fave the hellhound to burn away his annoying flotsam and jetson little nids, and for the bleeding hive tyrant with tyrant guard which is a super horrible problem, just troop up everything that can hold a plasma gun with one. these items i have used individually but never as the combined arms I've suggested but it is getting a shot soon. so it might just work?

being a Tyranid player i have seen my fair share of defeats against Imperial guard... heavy weapons, tanks and low AP weapons are the basic weapons to kill the Tyranids. advice: always kill the big ones that have synapse , although how will you do that when i have you in combat, thats your problem -Panzer

Fex-Killer of the year- The Eversor Assassin. Cheap, cavalry-fast, invulnerable save, never rolls more than a four to wound, ignores armour saves. and can have up to ten attacks on the charge. Oh, and he can outflank.

Vendettas are really good for taking out Nid-zilla list. 3 twin linked lascannons you can not go wrong there!
Recently in a game I scored three wounds on my friend's Hive Tyrant, and they get there 3 6+ invul save, with only one wound left I thought sweet that is one more bug off the table. But being the lucky bastard he rolled 3 6s! So focus all fire on one and you will be good! Just because they can make all their 6+ saves!

well i have a friend that plays nids (well plays them sometimes)
his list is this
Hive tyrant lots of guants plus they keep coming back and 3 carnifexs (theres also more syonap creatures in there but dont know the name.
But playing with the new codex. I used bring it down (the one that makes it twin linked) and killed 2 carnifexs on the first turn with my two lascannon heavy weapon teams.
Killed the hive tyrant with 2 russ tanks 12 heavy bolter shots, 2 lascannons, 2 heavy stubbers and 2 battlecannons should do it.
my guardsmen killed his 3rd carnifex with massed las i had 100 guardsmen first rank fire second ranked fired had about 200 lasgun shots and guess what i got a double one (for both squads) and made there weapons twin linked. He almost cried we all his big things disipered in the first turn.
O and the 3rd russ tank killed 1 of the other syonap creature things.

The bane wolf can murder a fex IF IN A SQUADRON cause thats 3 templates ato hit 2+ wound AP 3 and no cover saves :-D so unless the fex has extended carapace(2+) all you need to do is mop up the carnifex with a couple of lascannons/anything strength 7+ eg kraks, plasma, melta, demolisher, battle cannon but the blasts are risky due to the closeness of your bane wolfs so i would go for kraks, metlas and plasma

I killed 6 Tyranid MCs in 3 turns with an executioner and standard russ, two heavy weapons teams of missile launchers and a little massed lasgun fire.

There's a taint of necromancy here... but I suppose 'fexes are a recurring problem.
Dare I say... punisher?

Yeah, i've been kind of amused by how many people are giving advice on a Game that was played almost 10 Month ago I feel like some MathHammer, though, so: Punisher: 3x Heavy Bolter, Stubber, 210 Points Exterminator: 3x Heavy Bolter, Stubber, 180 Points Executioner: Plasma Sponsons, 230 Points LRMBT: Lascannon, Heavy Bolter Sponsons, 185 Points Elite Fex: 4 Wounds, T6, 3+Sv Heavy Fex: 5 Wounds, T7, 2+Sv Punisher Vs. Elite Fex: 61/36~1.7 Wounds per Turn. 0.81 Wounds per Turn per 100 Points. Exterminators Vs. Elite Fex: 5/4~1.2 Wounds per Turn. 0.67 Wounds per Turn per 100 Points. Executioner Vs. Elite Fex: 119/54~2.2 Wounds per Turn. 0.96 Wounds per Turn per 100 Points. LRMBT Vs. Elite Fex: 182/108~1.7 Wounds per Turn. 0.91 Wounds per Turn per 100 Points. Punisher Vs. Heavy Fex: 4/9~0.4 Wounds per Turn. 0.21 Wounds per Turn per 100 Points. Exterminator Vs. Heavy Fex: 7/12~ 0.6 Wounds per Turn. 0.32 Wounds per Turn per 100 Points. Executioner Vs Heavy Fex: 113/72~1.6 Wounds per Turn. 0.68 Wounds per Turn per 100 Points. LRMBT Vs Heavy Fex: 351/648~0.54 Wounds per Turn. 0.29 Wounds per Turn per 100 Points. So by the Averages, the Executioner is about your best bet of the lot. The Punisher still comes in last in almost every case, with the Exterminator vs. Elite Fex being the only worse matchup on a Point-by-Point basis. Honestly, though, looking at these numbers, I've gotta say, Tanks are a pretty bad way to take out Fexen. Infantry Squad* Vs Elite Fex at 18" Range: 11/12~0.9 Wounds per Turn. 1.07 Wounds per Turn per 100 Points. Infantry Squad* Vs Heavy Fex at 18" Range: 2/3~0.7 Wounds per Turn. 0.78 Wounds per Turn per 100 Points. *Infantry Squad, Lascannon and Plasmagun, 85 Points. And the massed Infantry take home the prize, with better results than any Tank we've got.

Yeah, the punisher bit was mostly a joke. I always stood by my infantry. I don't own many tanks anyway...

Depends on what counts as a tank. Currently, I have only one LRBT.

I only tend to field one carnifex, mainly because I get distracted by the other shiny things I can stick on my other units. So it has a tendency of drawing all the fire in the field before dying horribly in CC with one wound left.
Although once facing two Tau armies it did manage to dodge every railgun shot thrown at it for the whole game, I've never seen so many 1s on the 'to hit' roll.

I reckon Commander pask + fully heavy bolter sponsoned leman russ punisher should be able to take out one monstrous creature per turn!
Your firing 29 shots at a carnie at 3+ to hit with re-rolls to wounding!
Charging the mafornicateah with a veteran squad would work as well! Shot him 3 times with melta guns (hopefully u roll well) maybe even throw a demopack at him? Then charge him with your power fist sergeant. People tend to take more gunfexes these days, so he can't really take many dudes out of your team. Hopefully with 3 attacks you can put at least one more wounds into the fex!

Um, dude, I think sergeants get 4 attacks when charging. *Grins maliciously as he realizes the effect of guard sergeants with power swords* Can str 3 hurt t6? I suppose a 6?

Post by ssgtdude (M.I.A) on Dec 13, 2009 20:44:31 GMT -5
yes str 3 can hurt t6 on a 6. It is double the str plus one when you can't hurt it.
With that in mind a squad of 50 conscripts with a priest in hand to hand can actually hurt and kill a fex on a charge.
Most times you will need 5's to hit and 6's to wound. The priest with the Evisorator (just in case he is a t7)
Best to do a multiple charge with some gaunts at the same time as hitting the Fex. He then will have to make saves due to his fearless rule once you dedicate a majority of the attacks to the gaunts.
If straken is nearby you have a furious charge so then it is easier to get more wounds on the gaunts.
A fex needing to take 17 saves at the end of combat is funny to see and even funnier when he fails them.

Not quite, that's the formula for Weapon Skills. An Attacker can't Wound anything with Toughness 4 Points higher than his Strength or more. So Space Marines can't Wound a WraithLord (T8) with their basic Attacks or Bolters.

Carnifex are easy to kill. Genestears and fast moving things like ravenors are what you need to watch out for!
