I prefer one Heavy Flamer and a longer Ranged Weapon. Since none of the main options are Defensive, you're only going to be able to fire one of them on the Move anyhow, and few opponents are courteous enough to line you up for two good Heavy Flamer shots without moving.
I've only wished for twin Heavy Flamers once, when a Nid Player decided to get some extra Movement out of his Hormies by charging one of my Chimeras. Even with only one Heavy Flamer, I still racked up 14 kills in one shot ;D

Chimera, to my understanding(no new codex yet) are mobile pill boxes and transports, sex on treads and nobody should complain.

WestRider: My example was under 4th Edition rules when Str. 5 was still considered defensive. That's where it excelled. Nowadays, I'd use a Multi-laser/Heavy Flamer combo to do essentially the same job.

Edition differences are worth specifying. This is a perfect example of a build that was amazing in 4th, but is sub-optimal now.

I always take Harker w/ vets in a chimera. Make sure to also use an HK missle to kiss that rear armor of any tank or whatever you end up looking at when you outflank the pillbox.
This combo has won me many battles.

I dunno if I endorse taking Harker in a chimera, sure having an extra moving HB is nice, but that would be wasting his main contributions, Infiltrate, Stealth and Move Through Cover.

Yeah, Harker's a bit wasted buttoned up. He's best infiltrating or outflanking.
I've always loved Chimeras, they've got great capacity as a pillbox and good shooting on their own. Same Guard rule applies to them as everything else, field enough of them and no one can take them all.

If an Outflanking Unit takes a Dedicated Transport, it can Outflank as well ;D

Chimeras form a backbone in my army almost as much as my standard infantry does. They let me move to my objectives, have tremendos firepower and can keep your men safe, for around 65 points. Drive these bad boys up a flank, use them to anchor lines, protect your commanders or to form a wall in front of your barrage ordinance. However you dice it they are cheap for the ammount of pure firepower that can pour out of them each turn.

So is there going to be a new model for the chimera? as i understand it, those lasguns on the back are going to be obselete in favour of a gun port where a standard trooper lasgun can be put through...or a melta gun

I don't think so, they mention the gun ports as representations. Besides, they are full up working with the new vehicles (several based upon the chimera hull) to have time remodelling the fully functioning current Chimera chassi.

Well, they made it look realistic and good for a staet, as opposed to the old model which in MHO looked a bit naff. the new Rhino looks pretty cool, and considering the chimera was around since V2, i think its due an upgrade at least

A chimera is always worth it. Even if you're running a gunline, it's 55 points for two heavy weapons in a very durable package (compared to two heavy weapon teams, which cost the same or more), that if need be can transport troops, or run in front of them to keep them alive from shooting or delay enemy assaults, or tank shock enemies to bunch them up for ordnance.
Every squad deserves a chimera.

As much as I would love a new Chimera model, can you imagine the repercussions it would have. Every basilisk, hellhound chimera or anything based on that chassis would be obsolete. Maybe they will just change a turret, the rest of the tank looks fine in my opinion. I don't want to think about re buying a mechanized army all over again That and if they work on new tanks I want to see our new barrage ordinance and Leman Russ turrets to hit the shelves first.

What i meant with the rhino is the fact that it being the most sold and used of all the vehicles they had. They still made a new one.
I wouldn't be surprised if we get a new Chimera. Or at least one redone to be easily modified into all new types (including artillery) and with a fully modeled interior.
Welcome to the board Lendog. I agree with ElegaicRequiem.

I prefer the second option. If they totally changed the look of the Chimera, everything based off of it would be obsolete. Instead of people rushing to buy the new one, you'd just see a lot of people using VDR and using their old models, or just proxying with the old models....

So can you fire ANY heavy weapon from Chimera then??? if so mine will be mobile mortar platforms! Well, yes, but the thing is that if the vehicle moves the passengers count as moving, which means that you have to stand still to fire HWs. On the other side, three LC teams in a Chimera can be a tough bunker, unfortunately you have to embark the transport first round though.

That's not too much of a problem if you're hiding behind a rock, or something. Just put some shinier targets out there to distract the other guy.
