The Hetlan signal is too terrifying for most of us to contemplate, much less use.

I have just finished my book titled "Your first 100 words in Arabic". Now comes the task of continuing my quest. My friend leaves jail tonight so I will no longer have a native speaker helping me. Has anyone learned Arabic? Any pointers to learning a 2nd language?
P.S. welcome back Hetlan.

Any pointers to learning a 2nd language? Never stop, never slow down, never despair. Always move forward, and don't let anything, or anyone, stop you. Same as anything else in life to which you apply yourself. Look at my current avatar. That's me standing in front of Matsumoto castle in Japan. I worked hard for almost two years, at one point working four jobs to achieve my ambition of, what amounts to, having that picture. I didn't let anything stand in my way, and you can do the same.

I studied some in college (in fact, I still have my textbooks), but I only know enough to probably get myself killed if I ever venture to that part of the world. However, I would suggest immersing yourself in Arab world cinema and television. Sure, it'll be in Cairene dialect most of the time, but watching it with English subtitles should help you get an intuitive feel of the flow of the language. Watching Al-Jazeera in its original Arabic would also be a good idea, if you can find it subtitled somewhere.

Julian are you still using your Arabic textbooks? May I have them? Buy them?

Rook - you should be able to get short clips of various Arabic news networks on YouTube. AlJazeera is broadcast from Qatar, so its the mouthpiece of the Qatari royals. I think the Syrian network is called SANA (syrian arab news agency). I think instead of watching news, try to watch some TV series. Apparently turkish tv series are huge in the ME now and the most popular get dubbed into arabic, so I found you a website full of them but you might have to download the episodes : 3 arab tv - turkish series dubbed into arabicAnd don't be silly, you just have to use the Hetlan signal. So is that; mirror, Hetlan signal, then manoeuve?

The Hetlan signal is too terrifying for most of us to contemplate, much less use. Oh come on ER, its just a [CENSORED BY THE HIGH LORDS OF TERRA] over two [CENSORED BY THE HIGH LORDS OF TERRA] surrounded by [CENSORED BY HETLAN]. See? Its simple..

Doesn't Al Jazeera have a U.S. branch now, like BBC 'Murica, but I think they speak Engrish since they are broadcasting to us 'Muricans...

Today; the man who gave a beastman a plasma pistol, who armed them with lasguns, machine pistols, and a melta pistol... Just gave them a rocket launcher. Now they need a Nissan pick up truck and lots of petrol. I was going to go for a multi-melta There's a car bomb joke in there somewhere, but I'm not going to make it. I think you just did... <.< >.> TBH, though I was going to suggest changing the name to Top Camel or Top Burqa... That has got to be the greatest waste of non-PC humour I have ever seen. Please. Just. Don't. I would like an Arabic top gear. The presenters would get to be properly bigoted, chainsmoking nihilists with a serious death wish, rather than the rather dull adventures of the BBC ones.

Awesome. Last night I found a script that allows the old 16-bit X-Wing Vs. TIE Fighter game (as well as X-Wing, etc.) to be installed and run on 64-bit systems. I downloaded and unzipped it, ran it, and then successfully installed the game from my old CD-ROMS, and basically played it from 2 AM until 10 AM...

There are no models for them, unlike squats. What the Imperium needs to do is just put all the cat people and all the taurox, the blueprint/ stc technology for it on one world, preferably as far away from the Imperium itself as possible. I was going to go for a multi-melta That sounds like a funky conversion. Did the horns get in the way on the missile launcher beastman?

I bust out an ancient computer to play X-wing and Dark Forces every now and again.

Yeah, someone coded up something in Visual C something or other that runs partly through the desktop, but also with a bit of DOS operation (I still sorta remember how) to make the old code compatible with the new architecture. And it works great. Linky.Follow number 8, unless you also have CDs for X-Wing and TIE Fighter (or still have a working floppy drive and the 3.5" discs) to install those games from, in which case you can have them too. You will need both the Balance of Power expansion CD and the original X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter CD and it takes maybe half an hour to set up and run. Don't worry about the Xbox controller bit, I'm using my old Logitech WingMan joystick just fine.

Hmmm... Historically I have made more money with my four-year degree (lots) than I have with my Master's (none). I'm actually having to pay even more money this summer to do something that will allow me to use my Master's to make money... You did just finalize your master's degree. You're also in a special type of job market where there will always be money, and there will always be jobs. Take notes, kids. If you didn't major in the hard sciences, medicine, or law, you're not going to get a fancy job unless you know people. At least, that's how it is for the majority in the US, now with new and improved poorest poor among developed nations. Oh, and richest rich. Not sure if it's counted as hard science, but Engineering/CS/programming is a pretty good as well. It at least strikes a half and half at worst. Some of those interviews can get LONG because they'll actually hand you a test to fill out. Or they give you the test beforehand and you bring it with you to go over. Of course, the trade off is how dang hard it is. Either that or CS teachers have a really good conspiracy going. My first CS class got cut down to almost a quarter of it's original roster at the end of the semester, and I think a little under half of those didn't/won't have made it through the second. And we're just halfway through the freaking intro courses 0.0 . In unrelated news, apparently drinking apple juice before bed helps dreaming. Tried it last night, and all I remember by this point is a constant feeling of abject terror. EDIT: Oh hey, welcome back Hetlan!

My Vulture got destroyed today when I dropped it while moving it to prepare for my gaming table's inaugural game. However, while looking for the rear landing strut that went missing I discovered that Nurgle has been at play in the Super BasementTM, and I get to put the kibosh on whatever is the source of moisture under the rug where the cabinet I moved to look for where I thought the missing piece ended up, and eradicate the fungus that's trying to grow there (as well as chuck the lower third of cabinet, fortunately one of those cheap pressboard deals, as the stuff has infested the outer surface of the lowest pair of drawers... A fortuitous accident I would say.
