Today I am back from another LARP weekend, where I've furthered my plans to take over a fictional world by convincing more people that I'm really a nice vampire, and that I'm on their side. (I didn't plan on being a vampire, but it turns out that when you follow your lawful stupid paladin friend into a vampire crypt, and the vampires are expecting you, the Paladin's 'kill the undead' powers don't work quite as well.) I also got confirmation today that the polearm that I ordered will be here in a couple of days. People were afraid of my five foot greatsword, they will know true terror in the face of seven feet of stabbing death. (I might be more excited than I should be for this thing.)

Paimon; you're ordering some kind of poleaxe? Is this for martial arts/ larping / both? SO they made SM horribly OP sounding. Most aren't too bad. The ones to watch out for are Raven Guard and White Scars. WS get 'hit and run' and if they take their Korsarro Khan they get to outflank anything non-terminator (including squads in transports and predators...) Biker heavy armies are apparently quite scary but I haven't seen them in action yet.

I remember when I could outflank half my army. THEN THEY RUINED THE IMPERIAL GUARD AND TRIED TO DISGUISE IT BY CHANGING THE NAME
Ward left but his legacy obviously lives on and continues to drain life out of the hobby.
WHY DO THEY TAKE EVERYTHING GOOD AND GIVE IT TO SM!?
Next thing you know there will be Living Metal landraiders.

Ward just left in March... Or May. I forget which, but now that he's gone, some of the derp that he retconned into the fluff is being retconned out (like the GK slaughtering the Battle Sisters and "wearing them as hats."). Paimon: Pics or it didn't happen.

THEY STILL RUINED MY ARMY
Now I have to think of more creative ways to die. Like having a full Scion platoon with each squad being 1 Sgt and 4 Meltas each. Or 1 Sgt and 4 Volley Hostshot lasgun things. WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW SPACE MARINES?

Muhreens don't worship anything but their wargear. They venerate their Primarch and the Emperor.
Why use scions, not regular guardsmen?
Regular guardsmen/ conscripts are much cheaper so unless the marine player has invested in thunderfire cannons, drop pods with deathwind, whirlwinds or nicely positioned devastators with heavy bolters, the guard can easily still win on numbers.

You can still let your opponent's hopes and dreams die in a surge of flesh. Take heart.

Because I can DS 3 full platoons of Scions with maxed out (4 each squad) Hotshot Volley Guns or Plasma or Melta or w/e and watch as everything on the board lives because I still miss most shots.

The way I place terrain on top of everything I kind of get too scared to DS anything. I need to assemble drop pods, been saying this for ages... Drop pods will change everything

Volley guns! Because reaching back to the awkward technological shift era of WW1 wasn't dumb enough for a omni-front war in space!

Its their own fault for chaining their soldiers together and making them advance in blob formation with 5 sergeants with power axes and a commissar, priest and game-show host.

He has a microphone/ loudspeaker set up, just so you know where they are for the night-fighting turn and a Blankety-blank chequebook and pen.

Today, a free weekend for Rome 2 started. Anyone plyaed it, how does it compare to Shogun?

It's worse than Shogun. It's very demanding graphically, far more than it should be. The UI for battles is extremely obtrusive, the battle AI is mediocre at best. It feels like a step backward from Shogun, particularly Fall of the Samurai. All that said, after the balance patches, it's not a bad game, per say, and the campaign is fun (although just auto-resolving most battles actually makes it better, I think. Take from that what you will). They do add some cool features, like battle histories and specializations for legions, but on the whole it feels like a more simplified, less flexible version of Shogun.
Can't speak to the multi, though.

After 11 days, I may finally have control of my Steam account back after some ass clown in Peru attempted to hijack it. The long time is mostly due to the layers upon layers of account security. There's a story here, but I don't feel like getting into the vague details for no purpose.

@reds: Well, that sucks. Hopefully the patch will have remedied that stuff. Iunno. It's a free weekend so only wastes time to try, not money.

I really like it but I didn't get shogun, I'm more interested in the Romans in history really. Not played the multiplayer either. ..
I was considering buying the old Rome for £1.50 even though I have it on disc somewhere it's gonna be a female dog to find. I need to find some games to play at a LAN party next week and I remember having fun with it a while back at a LAN

Old Rome gets you Europa Barbarorum.
Update: Medieval II gets you the Europa Barbarorum II, which is basically the above in the improved ME2 engine.
