I'm pretty sure you cannot disembark even if the transport and the troops have the scout rule. Pick one or the other, or both separately I guess, and make the scout move.

Yeah, but a special weapon drop-off will give anyone the willies.

Ok, whilst we're on the subject of being beardy with Valkyries; here's a thought. Where in the codex does it say that you can't take Grey Knights as Deamonhunter Allies (perfectly legal even in Tournies) and load them up in the Valkyrie? It says in the entry that it has a transport capacity of 12 models and it can't transport Ogryns. It says nothing about Marines! I know. I know it's wrong and dirty and horrible and unrealistic, but they've definitely missed it in the codex didn't they?

I don't think they missed it...I'm almost tempted to think that they are beginning to think of C:DH and C:WH as dead codices.
If you did it I would cry "beard".

I actually haven't shaved in a while You can't assault out of Valks anyway can you? I think Grey Knights are beardy anyway, I could take a squad of power armoured Marines with Storm Bolters and S6 and a load of beardy rules that can hold objectives in my standard IG list! And it'd be Tournement legal...it's a horrible idea.

You can't assault from it. It has neither an assault ramp nor is it open-topped.

...the great thing about moving at 12" in a Valk, you get the 4+ save AND you get to shoot one weapon plus supporting...ie, Multilas+Rocket pods. He he he! (I think that's correct...pick me up on the 12" = 4+ save please if I'm incorrect) This is incorrect. In order to qualify for the Cover save you have to move Flat out. In order to move flat out you have to move more than 12 inches. And while moving more than 12 you cannot fire any weapons.. Indeed you cannot assault from a valk that has moved that turn the best you can do is shoot or Run. However that makes me wonder if you could assault with unit that has fleet? - though i dont know of any that guard can take that have fleet.

Breaking the Beard: How to use this tactic to break Nob Biker lists.
You will need:
2 Vendettas
2 Veteran squad with meltaguns.
Right, so you won the first turn rolloff, yes? It's a 50:50 chance, so we'll assume you ha'e. Okay. After he deploys, turboscout the Vendettas to within 12" of one of his Biker squads. In your movement phase (assuming he fails to steal the initiative), drop off your veterans. Now, in shooting, fire the Vendettas at the Bikers. If you get really lucky, and you wipe out the Nob Bikers, then run your Veterans back into the Vendettas. If you don't, use them to finish off the first Biker squad.
How to do this without getting first turn:
You need 2 Meltavets units 1 Melta command (make sure you also give plasma pistols to the sergeants and officer)
Even easier. Keep the two veteran squads mobile. He turbos into your frontlines. You move the melta command and the meltavets up into 12" of one of his units. You 'Fire On My Target' into him. Statistically, that should obliterate an entire squad of Nob Bikers.
Rinse, and repeat on the next squad.
Some better tricks:
Psyker battle squad + Valk. Fly into them with scouts, drop psykers, 'weaken resolve', kill two bikers by whatever means, watch them flee.

Only one way to get an assault after being dropped off or deep striking with any unit. It only works with independent characters. It takes a lot of prep work as well in order to pull it off.
Move the transport 12" Drop the independent character two inches from hatch. Move up a unit close to the unit that you want to assault and within the 2" of the independent character. Independent character is now part of unit as he is considered to have joined unit.
Assault the unit into the target and the independent character is pulled into the combat with the unit he just joined. Move the units closest to closest then move independent character per rules.
Only "legal" way per the rules that you can assault after deployment from any vehicle that is NOT open topped, or does not have an assault ramp. When the game designers were asked about this, they said... "Gee, We never thought about that."
Look for either a FAQ or a correction next rule set.

And why would they? That's an obvious 'semi-cheat' that... really deserves to be tried. Just once...

I'm not sure that would work either. IC can't assualt from a non open topped vechile. So making them part of another unit, would make that unit not be able to assualt too, not make the IC able to break the rules.
I could well be wrong on that, but can't see it happening myself

Fatuous you misread what I said.
An IC disembarks from a transport, or drops from the Valk.
You place him close enough to a friendly unit on the drop.
After that unit moves you ensure that at least one model is within 2" of the IC. The IC is now part of that unit. The Unit then assaults a enemy unit. The IC is pulled into the fight along with the unit since the IC is part of the unit.
You can also do it in reverse. Unit deep strikes, IC moves to within 2" fires a pistol at an enemy and assaults the unit dragging the unit along for the ride with him.
As I said in another thread I would never do this in a friendly game nor would I pull this off in a tournament. It is a Douche' move and would only bring this tactic out if I were playing a complete and utter Douche'

Ssgt dude - I think fatuous may be right. If the IC is incapable of declaring a charge, then I think that restricts the unit from doing it - it would be similar say to an IC joining a unit that had shot heavy weapons then dragging them into assault, or even the deep strike example you give, they simply can't assault and having an IC join them doesn't override that unless said IC has a special rule that states otherwise.

I would agree that in order to assault every model in the unit must be able to assault.
