I had an idea i would like to share with all of you. Now please correct me if i am wrong but I think that, after you attach advisors to the command squads and the such, that you would then be able to attach them to conscript platoons? If so, then attach a priest with a holy relic and on the charge with a 50 man squad, with the warrior weapons doctrine, you get 200 attacks with re rolls to hit! (am i allowed to post this bit?? I read the posting rules but i was i bit confused. If not then I am very sorry ) I'm not sure if that is legal, because i have never seen anybody else do it but if so, you could turn the overlooked conscript platoon into a seething mass of close combat attacks. Just a thought, Rob.

sorry adivors can't be put into consript platoons but that was a hell of a idea post them if you think of them
as a side not indiviual commmissar can be placed with consript platoons.

*Reading the codex carefully* "A model bearing a holy relic may reveal it once a battle blagh, blagh, blagh i'll skip to the point, all friendly models within 2D6 get +1 attack bonus for the rest of the turn. Although this means the potential 200 attacks cant be re-rolled you could still get the extra attack. Note that you only recieve the extra attack if the model is within 2D6 inches not if members of the unit/squad are within 2D6. This means that somehow you have to cramp 50 conscripts with a 2D6 radius which is impractical and near impossible to achieve. It also leaves the squad sitting ducks for ordance. Good topic though Rob!

If you read the rules for the priest, it says that you can re-roll all attacks on the turn you charge. So you would be able to re-roll the attacks, but i agree with you there that it would be near impossible to cram that many conscripts into the area. Maybe adding the priest to another squad, say the command squad, would leave quite a large dent in the enemy if you went all the way and added a commisionar, psyker with honorifica and a couple of power fists.
Oh well... looks like i will have to devise another way to get a few hundred attacks from a meatbag unit. Though 50 rapid firing conscripts would still blow all but the hardiest unit away.

I've found conscripts rarely let me down when kept behind the main lines and shoved into any breach in the battle line that opens up. even a platoon of 20 (which is all I use) is adequate for putting a serious whooping on anything that begins to break thru friendly lines. it's the cadian counterattack unit and should be used as such. BS2 does bad bad things to the volume of hits you score on a rapid fire so should only really be done when you can't get a charge off and can't prevent being charged the next turn.
even unsupported, they can typically turn the tide of a single enemy squad breaking into your lines (though I like to throw every guardsman within charge range at an enemy to break him in one go rather than drawing it out).

Turtleboy is right. The application of vast quantities of men to anything will work on an open battlefield.
