Hello everyone, i am a new player, and have officially invested enough time and money to field a 1500 pt force. I chose chaos because i enjoyed greatly the details of the models and the backstory behind the race itself.
I have limited flexibility, but i own all the models in this list but abaddon, he is on my wish list atm.
Here is my army list, if you would please offer any and all constructive critiscism where possible. I'm looking to learn deeper strategies and troop organizations, so any tips and pointers as to actual playstyle with each troop, and/or my army would also be greatly appreciated.
1500 point army
HQ--430pts Abaddon-275pts
Chaos Lord-Mark of Khorne, terminator wargear twin linked bolter and power weapon, daemon weapon. 155pts
Elites--170pts 5 Possessed Marines-Aspiring champion, Icon of Khorne. 170pts
Troops--422pts 5 Chaos Space Marines-Aspiring champion, Power fist, Icon of nurgle. 115pts
12 Khorne Berzerkers-Skull champion, meltabombs, personal icon, two plasma pistols. 307pts
Heavy Support--450 1 Obliterator-75pts
5 Havoc marines-Icon of Nurgle, lascannon, heavy bolterx3. 205pts
1 Chaos predator--lascannon, side sponsons heavy bolters, daemonic possession, havoc launcher. 170pts
It equals out to 1472 pts so theres a little wiggle room there.
So far this is what i am fielding outside of the abaddon, the only units i currently have available to add is a troop of daemonettes of slanesh, however i am willing to invest in more models. Thanks in advance.

This is my opinion, so you can do whatever you want with them. Anyhow here are some pointers, first of all I would invest in some kind of wound soakers for your lord, which would mean that you either would need to get rid of either Abbey or the possessed. The possessed are awesome models, but are fairly crap on the table. Abbey is awesome if he gets into cc, but I wouldn’t field him in a 1500 point game as he probably will not kill enough to pay back the fairly large chunk of points, 1/6 of your army value. I would suggest that you got hold of a couple of termies to keep your lord alive. I am not going to say what I think about Zerkers, I am a pure slaanesh player so I am extremely biased, fluff wise I would either field them in groups of 8 or 16, secred number of Khorne, I would go for 8 and stuff them in a rhino. Get at least 1 more obliterator ASAP, they have a tendency to draw a lot of fire and in my experience they don’t have the survivability to be field alone. Now to my favourite model the predator, an all-rounder predator would be nice, but I think it is better fielded without the sponsons or with lascannon sponsons, with lascan sponson it will draw a tremendous lot of fire and its armours is, to be frank, crap. Sadly not worth its points. I would suggest to field the havocs with rocketlaunchers so the can take out both troops and armour; you don’t have enough of anti armour in your list at the moment. The mark of nurgle is good, but I am not sure if its good in a havoc squad, you should keep them way back in cover, which would mean that they get fairly often shot at with the heavy weapons so if they get wounded the FnP wouldn’t matter anyhow. My list would look something like this. HQ Chaos lord in termie armour, with some sort of mark and personal icon Elite Termie squad with a couple combi weapons, plasma or meltas and a chainfist would be nice too. Troops Chaos marines with icon in a rhino 8 Zerkers with icon in a rhino Minor deamons Heavy 2 obliterators 7 havocs with rocketlaunchers mark of nurgle (why 7? Nurgle sacred number. ) As you can see there are some changes, try out your list and see if it works, and then fiddle around a bit with it. Cate

Mark of nurgle doesn't grant feel now pain. just +1t, your army isn't very mobile and is assault based meaning it will get caught easily, Abadon is too expensive for 1.5k i'd drop him, 3 bezerkers and the lord's terminator armour and mount them in a rhino and then with what ever is left buy a squad of plague marines with plasma to camp your own objective.

Im currently in the process of playtesting my list. Thus far i'm getting my butt kicked by space marines, with a three lascannon predator managing to immobilize a dreadnaught 3 times over 3 turns and that's it. As well as my abaddon, chaos lord, and terminator squad failing to deep strike within the first 3 turns. I fielded two more troops than i actually have, a 10 unit noise, and 10 unit plague marine squad, so far i like the plague marines, but the noise marines caused one casuality while taking 9. The rhino for the berzerkers worked well, i took out two and fielded only a rhino full. Seems to work but my rhino was immobilized first turn after having moved so my berzerkers were still masacered.
Any advice on making noise marines more useful, and possibly tactics for loading dice?

When fielding noise marines equip them for what their role should be, if you are using them for close combat, be sure to equip the champion with a power weapon and the doom siren, if you are starting to equip the ordinaries with sonics and blasters, the squad will be to expensive. The shooty one have a tendency to get expensive, sure they can haul out truckloads of shots, but remember that the sonics are fancy bolters, so marines still can save the load out,. So my tip if you are going to use sonics against marines, load them into a rhino and equip the champ with a powerweapon and a doomsiren, I5 is fun against ordinary marines. Against horde, time to field them with sonics and blasters, orks and nids really dont like them.

To reliably win Games of 40K 5th Ed, you need a solid core of Troops, since they're the only ones who can Hold Objectives. With Chaos, this is doubly true, since they have some of the best Troops Choices in the game (All are decent, but Berzerkers, Plague Marines, and CSMs stand above the other two in general), and much of the rest of their Dex is a bit weak, to be frank.
Possessed, in particular, are regrettably pretty much a crap choice. I'd use them as regular CSMs or Berzerkers. I'd also hold off on Abaddon for a bit. Sure he's badass, but he's also over a 1/6th of your Points, in one fairly slow Model. You can get a very nicely kitted out CSM Squad for those same Points.
I wrote up a rundown on the Chaos Dex a little while back, I think it's a response in one of the threads around here somewhere. Poke around a bit, and even if you don't find it, you'll get a bit more of a sense for what has worked for others.
