Tau are tricky to beat, especially the kroot. Space Marines too, they are tough to beat as guardsmen, unless you've got lascannons and heavy bolters.

battle reports against supposedly superior troops ? There isn't anyone who's superior to IG.

I think that what lord castellejon wants is to know how IG performs against army who are said to be stronger than the Guard...like maybe SM, CSM or eldars... But I do agree with you Woz, the Guard is the best!!
For the Emperor!!!

No, it's just that the Tau sometimes get lucky against the IG. But if you start doubting your guardsmens superiority over all others then thats when the rot sets in and if the leadership is weak then so is the wrmy.
You may lose 100 battles but WE will win the war.

Haha. Nobody can beat the guardsmen! The guardsmen are eternal! They are all over the Universe! Plus they have Commissars! So they are super fancy! Fancyness. Well people think guard are weak, all you need is a strategic mind and alot of men and cover...and tanks...and trenches...and such...

In the name of the emperor we serve for the emperor some tell men to run to there deaths, but some of us tell are men to get the Hell down and into cover so for those of you that tell them to do the later you have my thanks.
Kill for the Emperor, don’t think of dying and when you’re chest is heavy with medals and you are laid to rest you shall be greeted by the emperor’s open arms and offered a place at his side for all eternity and you can see the galaxy you helped to conquer for all of mankind in your fathers name.

i had a close shave wen i was fighting eldar. Someone infiltrated striking scorpians right in front of me, and got 1st turn. I lost 2 squads and platoon command until i could start dishing the pain, as my forces were so streched out. This actually worked in my favour, as the rest of his troops were in the opposite corner, so i could balst away at them with my leman russ

I personally got my rear end handed to me for a loooong time by a vicious mech tau list when I was just beginning tau, so I've got tau related trauma skizoman, I've actually had really good results with splitting my force too - methinks it's something worth investigating. I had a battle vs tau (infiltrating striking scorpions, a wave serpent and a falcon were the main issues to deal with) and the first firebase took out the wave serpent which forced his entire army to footslog across the table and get chewed up and spit out by my second firebase. it was a win for me vs eldar who can be insanely tough!

My friends and I Osvossk and Mindless play Chaos and Necron, repectively. Yesterday we played an objective style game where the player in with the most units within 12" inches of the objectibe by turn 6 is the winner. This was a 1500 game by the way.
I got to go first, then Mindless, then Osvossk. I charged the Veteran squads straight towards the objective(They had the Chimeras) and they defended it relentlessly. My men began to move as MD began his Necron warrior death march and OV moved his men as his Land Raider went around towards my left flank.
Turn 2: One Veteran squad was completely wiped out as they arrived at the objective, and the warriors and Destroyers, two Heavy, three regular began to open fire. The poor Chimera went down. The CLR soaked up my 2 LR and Basilisk fire, sustaining no damage.
Turn 3: 1 platoon had arrived at the objective, the veterans took their 3 meltaguns and headed straight towards the LR. The Warriors were close Rapid fire range, luckily there were hills and I sustained little casualties thanks to the cover save. OV then pulled out the hell, Kharn the betrayer along with his his retinue charged my left flank, wiping out an entire squad. There were 32 dice rolls, 23 wounds, they were power weapons. Thankfully the rest of my platoon was not in base to base contact, so I lost only 8 men or so.
Turn 4: My Guardsmen are holding thier own on the hill, I was able to immobilize and stun the CLR, along with taking out one of the Lascannons. My Veterans sequered themselve 12" inches from the objective, just within range for the objective and dug in. They slaughtered an entire Chaos squad down to one man who fell back. The warriors had begun opening fire, I took a few losses, but not too much. Kharn wiped out another squad, it sucked to be me. I knew that half was lost and decided to move as much of my forces around it as I could. MD deep striked a swarm of scarabs and charged Kharn, they died.
Turn 5: I directed my LR towards MD's advancing Necron and took out several of them, unforunately he many of them got back up on his turn. My men huddled in fear as they waited for the game to end. They did a good job, actually holding thier own for some time. By this time, Kharn had finished off both the scarabs, and my entire platoon an began making thier way towards the objective.
Turn 6: My men took potshots at both the Advancing Marine and Necron, I had 4 squads at the objective, the MD had 3, OV had 2. My Basilisk was finally taken out of commission from the defiler (which had been trying the whole damn game.) I took rapid fire shots from both teams, decimating a good chunk of my army, and finishing off one squad. OV finished off the game by moving Kharn within the radius.
In the end we called it a three-way tie, it was one hell of a game. Somehow, my veteran squad "007" survived the entire game with EVERYONE intact. First platoon was cut down to the man, and I was down to around 25 men at the end. It was fun as hell and I was pleasantly surprised at how well my Guardsmen were able to hold out against BOTH Necron and Chaos on two different sides(I reached the objective first, who else where they going to shoot at?)
501st Etheran Grenadiers, 3rd Battalion, 5th Company did an excellent job that day; despite the heavy casualties.

Yes, he's scary as hell, I figured it wouldn't be worth it trying to kill him so I just chucked my Guardsmen at him, praying it'll slow him down.

I played a space marine player the other and wiped him out by turn two. Jaw dropping not only to him but every one else at the store. I got first turn and with that turn fired three missile launchers at his landraider and they all hit and two glances. I rolled a further six to destroy it. Then i fired two missile at each of his rhinos and destroyed those as well and my last missile struck his ven. dreadnought and it was no more. But wait my three bassies obliterated his termis and two blood claw squads. So after the first round of shooting i had taken out all of his vehicals and a hefty portion of his army and the battle went down hill for him after that.
