Like i said in 3ff3cts topic. i am building a watchtower for 40K. *having got a neat watchtower for fantasy, but its no good since it can hold only 1 model max* Here are the wip pics. The roof needs to be done. the cardboard is there just to see the total image a bit better. and i have not yet decided if itll be a pointy roof or a flat one... also, i need to build some stairs in so the models can actually get up there the stairs will be located inside the lookout post. No need to keep you waiting any further, here are the pics; *the cabined fits 3 models (almost 4) and the balcony has capacity for about 8 models and offcourse a fortified door with a peep-hatch. it needs further fortification on the door itself though. what i still want to do - equip a searchlight on the tower - build the roof. be it pointy or flat... - further fortify the door - add some more details to the large flat areas a.k.a. the pillar-part the feel my scenery should have is clean and neat. I want my army and battlefield to look futuristic. (duh) but not broken/war-damaged. also the tech should be very clean in buildings. no need for 100 valves and dirty pipelines and such. having said this, there will be some broken / shot to pieces buildings and such. just not o many. (so keep that in mind while giving comments pls , otherwise, the comments would get very out of place if for instance, you would love a total war devestated battlefield)

I like it! Very clean, and a really creative use of sprue. I think perhaps the walls could do with a little more detailing - it doesn't have to be pipes and things, but maybe something to break up the space Looks really good though - would fit in excellently in loads of different environments, which is always great for modular terrain! EDIT - just reread it and I completely missed you bit about detailing the walls. Just disregard everything I said Have you considered textured paints though? They can give you a nice concrete effect and let you get some excellent painting in with easy techniques like drybrushing

Ooo... lookin' good. Very similar to an idea I had, but abandoned since it didn't fit my army fluff.

yeah,.. @ scraper. Do like your comments. and i want to texture it with pipes and stuff. I just want to make it look 'not rusted' and battlescaped kind off landscape (for at leas 40% of my scenery) @ elagaicrequiem (damn thats hard to re-type ) i do like modelling and converting and painting and playing and even fluff, i never get the fluff going for me... like 'this is marlock, leader of the great fleat of zongoron'... i just cant believe my own fluff :/ neither does it link in with any of the fluff in the booklets and stuff, so, i stopped trying after my VC fluff sucked. and my TK have a great themed army, but no real fluff to go with it. So i was planning on making my imperial guard: 'Random imperial guardsmen-5000' army. (5000 being a random number as a rip-off from tell sell commercials. those names allways keep suprising me... how random/bad they are) Thus, my army being mostly regular. i want regular terrain with it. this should be, in my eyes, neat and tidy. Then i would have a 'clean not so battle hardened' force. and thus, clean structures. For texturing,... i might add some guns with camera's on the underside off the balcony, and some powersupply calbes up to the top. I have been thinking a lot about what kind of base i want. and this would fit in excactly (not being 100% sure on the total package) once i get the full idea ill post drawings/text to show you what i want to achieve as a base for my IG. So, to keep it short, thanks for the comments

jeeej dubblepost! here i go,... building is almost finished. only need to tidy up the roof (give it a better skin) then i should be done. i think ill just go for an oldschool roofriles on it. otherwise the watchtower could just as well be a pack of milk so here are the pics off the allmost finished tower. and some details on the searchlight mount, the extra fortified door (not that much though) and some electrical supply system. so,... no guns on the watchtower. way too much effort at this time i dont have that many pieces that are 40K specific only... so first want quantity, then maybe later ill expand some buildings with extra equip.

Oke,... the roof, the roof, the roof is on,.... finished! i present to you, the finished but not yet painted watchtower! Im still thinking about adding some kind of texture paint to walls. But i think the actual texture paint is a bit too much so i was thinking of just PVA-glueing sand to it :/ but im not shure what that would look like (keep in mind i want my building clean) this also means ALL my other building will be needing this treatment :/ so its quite freightening to start on that! anyways, heres the 'finished' product. the is detachable. its got a little ladder going up on the inside. Once its finished ill post it in my Plog (see my sign. but that could take a while )

DO NOT PUT SAND ON IT!
It will look crap. Like a 5 year old got his hands on it.
Im sure a bit of drybrushing and some weathering effects will make it look textured enough.

You could use some renovating filler on it. You know the stuff used on walls to hide little scraches and holes etc. Don't know what that's called in english, but it's made of gypsum and some other stuff. Gypsum spackle? I used it on some wrecked buidings and it looked quite good. it's quite soft stuff so you can get it it almost flat, but still you get some texture and nice rendered concrete look on your walls. // This stuff.

^ Teehee! yeah that's pretty good stuff, although it may cover details, use it on flat bits only Have a sneaky peek at 'how to paint tanks' book in GW next time you go in, there's loads of great weathering tips in it that can easily be carried over to buildings
