Hey all, I was wondering if it was worth giving my stormtrooper squad a vet sarge+power weapon. I play 1000pts mixed force, but this is my only Karskin squad and I generally infiltrate it into the objective. It tends to get chewed up by a few assault marines in CC. Is it worth the points to upgrade it to be a bit more CC-worthy?

i would take it....its not that much of a points burden so u should consider it. its always good to see a few space marines go down to a well deserved blow from a vet sergeant

I never have much luck with the powersword, Karskin really suck in assualt. Who knows though you might get lucky one day. Generally i would rather invest the points in a plasma pistol or stormbolter.

hmm, well in my 1000 point list i use 7 stormtroopers with the vet seargeant with a power sword and honorifica imperialis all deepstriking so it may be a good idea it may not, it depends what you are versing.

I was playing a puffed-up list and my power-sword equipped sarge neatly sliced a cheeky inquisitor in half. I guess it would be much less effective against T4 marines.

always... also a plasma pistol.. why not they have a 4+ armor save.. 50/50 they will survive the overheat hit but considering that the enemy cannot single out your sarg you will at least get in the 3 attacks with the power weapon each round.. and that could = 3 SM deaths if done right Cheers Gris

yep, with my big 'take and hold' grenadier squads I give the sergeants a power weapon but with my small kasrkin squads that deepstrike (5 man squads) I don't bother because they typically shoot once then fold (though lately I've been grumbling about at least having 1 with a power sword due to the fact that I've been playing them more conservatively because they're the elite of the elite and shouldn't just be thrown away!
I guess this equates to: yes, powerswords are worth it.

I give mine one and give him the honorifica imperialis and power weapon. So you have a non-independent character with an HQ stat line and can't be singled out.

Yeah, the Kasrkin-junkie's finally weighing in here. I run 6 Stormtrooper/Grenadier squads as the main body of my army. My Sergeants are all equipped with the basic weaponry, no upgrades (not even veteran status) simply to save points.

Get a flamer to soften thenm up before CC or who knows? If your lucky enough with shooting you CAN maybe take out a small squad thats been reduced, personally I think that Kasrkrin should only be deep striked into a position where they can pick off nerable targets like commanders and stuff.

Chimeras are a really good option for Karskin. Instead of giving the Srgt a powersword which realistically wont be much use in CC make him a sort of close range fire support unit by going with a plasma pistol or stormbolter. This tactic which i use to great sucess makes Karskin worthwhile and gets there points back more easily.

Can you give him a powerfist? (I think it's a O.O.I) if so, give him one and honorifica inperialis. He might go last in combat, but you can guarantee he is going to kill something.

hmmm, karskin seargent with power fist, a nice idea, but powerfists are officer only items and a veteran searge may not select officer only items (I looked it up but anyone who wants to double check feel free cos im not sure about honorifica imperialis)

Yeah, I know you can give them Honorifica imperialis, only one per army though. I've done the same to one of my srorm tropper sergeants. He also has a power weapon and plasma pistol. I don't care to remember how many fire warriors he has killed, 30 at least.

I give mine one and give him the honorifica imperialis and power weapon. So you have a non-independent character with an HQ stat line and can't be singled out. I tend to save my honorifica for a command squad member so I can buff the squads wound count - it helps when you've got another non-independent character attached to the squad that's got a hidden powerfist/weapon. if you're not gonna go with a strong melee hq squad, then going with a tricked out kasrkin sgt. seems a good idea - the thought of leaving it to chance in deepstriking him just makes me nervous as it could be alot of points wasted on a bad drop. Yeah, the Kasrkin-junkie's finally weighing in here. I run 6 Stormtrooper/Grenadier squads as the main body of my army. My Sergeants are all equipped with the basic weaponry, no upgrades (not even veteran status) simply to save points. definately a solid option. kasrkin/stormtrooper/grenadier squads are strong units on their own, and if you add too much extra to them it begs the question: "why not just get a squad of sisters for the same points!?" Can you give him a powerfist? negatory sir, sorry. you are correct in your recollection as the powerfist being an officer only item. the only non officer who can get one are commissars and hardened veteran sergeants.
