Hey guys im preparing myself fer a grand tournament next month and i plan to use my 2 squad of rough riders. we will be playing missions and mostly i just usually play a cleanse mission using my rough riders as a distraction. as in...sending them charging to the nearest unit in hopes of absorbing enuf fire power to let my infantry platoons go unscathed.
Can anyone show me some tactics because like i said i'll be playing with missions such as take and hold and stuff....and for me wasting a squad in a GT akes for certain victory points to my oponent.
P.S - i dont use hunting lances to keep em cheap...just cc weapons instead...tho they still make fer nifty assault units
HELP!

okay i see where going sending out a unit to distract the enemy but i would equip at least one squad with hunting lance and use them to hunt down termies, synase comaders etc or leave to the last turn and wipe out a unit on the objective. I find Rough riders are good at taking and holding objectives.

Hmm..........I wouldnt use them,I would use conscripts. Much cheaper and they dont dei so much, send them staright towards they nearest unit and swarm. Lots of shots with no chance of doing anything.

If you dont want hunting lances at least take a Vet Srgt with a power weapon. Because you want to get up close and personnel i suggest you take either flamers or meltas.

Quite honestly, hunting lances are the way to go with Rough Riders. It might just be my local experience, but players either know what RRs with hunting lances can do, and are afraid to let anything get too close to them, or they don't know what they can do and then get absolutely mauled by them.
If your opponent is scared of them, then they become a great distraction tool without opening them up to fire. They die just as fast as normal Guard so you have to keep them hidden a bit, but they should cause your opponent to be way more cautious when approaching your lines.

yes Rough riders die very ealiy (Land speeders) my friends all hate them and try to kill them so my advice is go with so you can distract the oponets fire.

Rough Riders are a bit expensive to be fire magnets and you only get them in small numbers so their not exactly an effective screen.

I made one of them! I used an imperial pistoler, used his legs, the torso from the tank sprue, the vox head from the infantry sprue, a bunch of cantines, ammo pouches, bayonets, grenades ect. along the horses straps. It turned out great, I love it! Expensive to build though...jeez...

they are expesive i used the bretonian knights box instead (they're nobilty or somthing like that). Rough riders go into the same catorgorie as mortors: fun and don't do much

Rough riders go into the same catorgorie as mortors: fun and don't do much That's kind of funny, because they are one of my more effective units. In my last tourney they paid their points in three out of five games, including doubling their points in one game, and caused major distractions in another. I just played a 2k game today against Necrons and seven Riders with lances wiped out a squad of Warriors, causing Phase Out. I generally run two 6 man units, or one 9 man unit, which aren't that expensive compared to other units. I modeled my Riders so that they are wearing little jet packs with green stuff flames trailing behind them, in homage to all the assault marines that get used in the local shop.

I thought of doctrines for an all cavalry assault list that would be cool to see in action. Though It'd need permission I think. Rough Riders Veterans Warrior weapons Abhumans Gland warriors This makes all your units able to move 12 inches a turn and effective in assault. Give your rough riders lances and upgrade your sarges to vets for power weapons and you'll slaughter elite armies, very expensive though a regular squad is 104 points OMG!!!10.4 points a model, but On a charge thats 27 stength 3 attacks and 3 without armor saves not counting the shot at 12 inches before hand from las pistols another 10 strength 3 attacks. Despite only strength 3 attacks thats the same as there ranged attack therefore an improvement. Finally a plausible guard assault army? Vets could have shotties and do two strength 3 attacks before charging and getting two more in assault. You'd need meltas or plasmas though. And a few basalisks for heavy support or Russes.

of course thy're effective along as they don't get hit up before hand i'm just saying htat some of the time they can become worthless when the oppenet can kill them.
