It may be in the later prints but the original print run had 12"-960" as the range in the unit description and 12"-unlimited in the summary... which was odd/annoying/etc

Hmm. Valid argument Reds. I'd say that the power levels in 40K tend to keep increasing - codex creep itself is increasing as time goes by. As to why GW keeps pandering to powergamers, well, I have no idea. It started in 40K with the Chaos Marines Book - and that stupid ability, Lash of Submission. Truth be told, Codex Creep has been around as long as 40K. The current round of it can actually be traced back one more Dex, to the Eldar Dex. At the time it came out, it was brutal. That it's relatively weak now is just one more measure of the magnitude of this round of Codex Creep. The thing I don't like about the BA Dex, from what I've seen, is pretty much in line with what Reds is saying: it makes the game so much more First Turn-intensive. Especially for a matchup like BA vs. IG, it's all too possible for a Game to be decided within the first Turn or two, and that's not really a Game I want to play.

I'll reserve judgement on that - I suspect the "first turn charge" that would benefit BA so much would really be about a combined charge in a single turn - not neccessarily the first. If that's correct, then it's still quite an interesting prospect - the BA player has to get into position with his units to pull off this "devastating" charge, while their opponent needs to prevent this from becoming possible while still maintaining heavy fire etc.

What, BA are going to be trying my 'Rolling Thunder' trick?
Ha.

Yeah, when they do it people'll just say, "aw, it's Spess Mahreens doing some new cheesy trick again." As a result, it's that much more impressive when we pull it off.
Besides, BA can only field up to three of these Valk clones.

Also, keep in mind that while it's a very shiny valk clone, we do pay twice as much the base cost for it.
Which is significant when tac marines cost more than twice a vet squad.

Attention, Captain Drang would like a word.
"Gentlemen, the plan is simple. We travel to Baal. We steal as many Storm Ravens as they have, and kill anything that gets in our way. Questions?"
(The speaker is identified as Sergeant Dirk Kasson)
"Are we going to blow up the fortress too?"

i stick to philosophy of 'we have more guns then you ... many more, that means eventually you die!' unless there nids, then they have less guns then any one. or if its orks then we dont have more guns :\

Now, I'm not saying that we've yet hit the point where it truly is all about what goes down in the first Turn. But I think the trend is going that way.
You obviously haven't seen my Nid List. I've outshot Guard Gunlines.

Not my gunline, and I'm hitting you from twice the range! (Alright, I have no idea if that's true or not...but I pride myself in bringing lots of guns.)

@ ymmot yes and as well as lots of guns bring lots of ammo (ignore me im drunk) but seriously without ammo guns are usless i mean its like getting a bottle of beer and not having a bottle opener sure you can beat someone with it but you dont get the same feeling as after youve drunk the gun and then beat someone with the bottle anyway this is probably gonna get blocked anyway so whatver but lots of guns = good no beer = bad Fonz

"Who listens to the Black Templars?"
*sidles up to eight foot tall termie BT castellan with five thunderhammers in each hand and a needle sticking out of a vein in his neck, which looks like a tree-trunk*

funnies thing I saw in a tourney was a planet fall mission between fearless Death Corp of Kreig and Black Templars. 15 marines being jumped and curb stomped by 65 Guardsmen was epic.
