Hi, i have some questions which are pretty basic, but I would appreciate it if you guys would help me out. 1) If the platoon JO (or any old guardsman) is within 12" of my general, does the whole platoon get to use the generals leadership? 2) How close do I have to set the platoon units up to eachother? 3) How close do the JO squad and the units need to stay to eachother during the game and how does this affect leadership? I guess i don't really understand platoons sorry if this is all clearly explained in the codex, I tried Thanks

1) The squad in question has to be within 12" of the officer, just because the junior officer is there next to the general doesnt mean the platoon benefits from the general. but they would if they were within 12".
2) You dont have to set them up as a clump of soldiers, you can spread out the squads all over the board.
3) Ummm...what? I dunno what you mean...well, morale? They dont HAVE to stick together, but if they are within 12" of their JO then they benefit from his morale check. I think thats how it rolls...I havent played a game or read a codex in like a month or two.
Hope this helps!

1. answer is no. the squad has to be within 12 inches of any officer to use his leadership
2. you can place them and put them anywhere on the board within your deployment zone. they act as independent squads in all ways shape and form.
3. its smart to keep the platoons close so that they can help each other. remember a squad of guard alone is a dead squad. if you are assaulted your gonna need 3 squads to charge in and help out. if your shooting 60 rapid fire shots are alot better then 20 especially from a lasgun. hope that helps out

Scenario: Two squads in charge range of enemy.
If one squad has a heavy weapon (and the other does not), they will remain stationary If one squad has an assault weapon like a meltagun or a grenade launcher( as above) , they will charge. If one squad has an inferior special or heavy weapon to the other(''), they will charge. If one squad is in terrain and the otheris not, the one not in terrain will charge. If the enemy unit is five men or below, both squads should charge unless they both have a plasma gun and heavy weapons.
I hope this will be of some use.
