I haven't found an answer to this one yet, so I will ask it of you all: I have the old experimental rules for Thudd Guns (aka QUAD LAUNCHERS) from Forge World. I have TWO simple questions: 1) What force organization should they take up? 2) Where are the now "official" rules for them located? I assume in the IGA5 ... but don't know anyone who has it. Thanks for your help.

I got my Thudder from back in the Rogue Trader days, but I see them on e-bay from time to time. As for the rules ... I can't afford $100 for a book, so I am just using their experimental rules. Guess I will have to be satisfied with that. All I got from Forgeworld was that it was in the seige book, and they would be HAPPY to sell me one.

They are in IA5. They are an Elite choice bought as a Battery of 1-3 for regular IG lists and 1-4 for DK Seige Army lists. (I do have a copy of IA5 so you can trust this as accurate). FYI, Heavy Mortars are purchased the same way.

@spacepuppy: I believe they are small artillery pieces.

A quad launcher(Thudd Gun) is a 4 barreled barrage weapon. It is not ordnance, uses the small blast marker and can only fire twice then it has to reload (ie, turn 1 fire, turn 2 fire, turn 3 reload, turn 4 fire, etc...). Its got above average range(more than the regular mortar), slightly better strength and AP. It is also a Heavy 4 guess so you use the multiple barrage rules and it gets a bonus to pinning. Must be towed so once you disembark it, you cant move it unless you re-embark it. It cant fire when it embarks/disembarks so unless your playing Apoc its best to place it and leave it.
The Heavy Mortar is just a towed Griffon.

nicely done angelusmortis - I really didnt want to have to censor any information you posted about the thuddguns cuz I'm curious too! looks like the rules my buddy has been using are the current ones - gawd I hate his thudd guns, they just cream my poor guardsmen turns 4 and 6 are like the 'omg something will actually live!' rounds. thudd guns are heavy weapon squad killers when they're used against you

They were made for anti-Troop work. They really arent powerful enough for anti-Tank work unless you can hit sides or rear, and even then only if it has weak sides and rear. But vs. hordes, I can some it up with one word. Ow. Heavy Mortars with infernus rounds I can sum up with 3 words. Ow. RUN AWAY!

infernus rounds are supercheaty, but hey, if your buddies are allowing forgeworld then get you some super-bullets!!!
ultimately, I believe the guard to be one of (if not THE most) hamstringed 40k army in the game, so some of the overtly powered-up things for the guard in the forgeworld book almost seem like GW's way of balancing things for us out so that we can compete.
gotta remember that in England, from what I hear, Forgeworld is 100% allowed in all official events. it's an accepted part of 40k and I'd wager you don't hear people whining about the presence of forgeworld units making things unfair.
