Im a bit of a novice and I was wondering if anyone could write a tutorial on making trenches and where to get the materials?
Also what could you make sandbags out of if you don't have greenstuff?

Back before the GW website updated...They had something about making trenches.... They weren't like Col. Corbane's, they were smaller and were above ground. I built a couple of them once. I'll see if I can post pictures later tonight.
Edit: Ok, no pics but Ill see if I can describe it to you.
Materials Foam Board ruler marker/pencil knife card board box glue
mark the shape of the trench face on the foam board this should be 1 inch tall by 6-12inches long Then cut this out Mark several 1 inch by 1 inch squares on your foam board cut these out and then cut the squares in half diagonally into two triangles If you cut out a six inch trench you need three triangles glue the triangles to the trench face (one in the center two on each side, these assist the trench in standing upright) Then you cut up the cardboard box into thin strips and glue the strips onto the trench edges (the ones where the form is visible between the two sheets of paper) Mout on a base if you want paint an Wala! a trench!

Just use clay or FIMO instead of greenstuff. Photocopied from Games Workshop's 'How to make wargames terrain'

Anything, but just try and avoid the polystyrene packing foam: the white stuff with the circles. I use off cuts of insulation foam myself.

Insulation foam works great. I was thinking about making up some templates for doing trenches inspired by the DKOK onces that Foregeworld made, though maybe not. I know that I want to have a modular trench table that can be re-arranged with one another to make different trench layouts.

A cheap easy way to make sandbags.
Materials
Pink insulation foam Athletic Tape "Sandbag Colored" Paint
1. Cut a chunk of insulation foam that's shaped like a sandbag. 2. Cut two small strips of athletic tape- enough to cover each side of the sandbag. 3. Sandwich the bag between the two pieces of tape 4. Trim the excess tape off 5. Paint it
The fabric texture of the athletic tape makes it look pretty detailed, for wicked cheap. I use a hot glue gun to glue all the bags together. A gun is a good investment if you want to make terrain.

An interesting trick I saw for quick-and-easy sandbags: dried lima beans.
I know; it sounds really frickin' weird, but when positioned/painted up properly, they play the part fairly well.
I forget where I saw this method, in all honesty. But it looked decent. Give it a shot if you want to try an alternative from foam and GS!
