Today My buddies and I were playing a Mega Battle (16000 pts). Well any way I had 2 of the 4 of my Thundrbolts show up on my turn and I put them in air intercept.
On the opposing players turn he got his Manta Missile Destroyer, full of Tau reinforcements. This vehicle is a small interstellar space ship that can land on planets, it has 10 structure points. On the turn when it starts its attack run my intercepters were able to engage it. I fired 8 hellfire missiles at it causeing some damage and a structure point or two. Then I fired the twin linked autocannons from one Thunderbolt at the Manta. One auto cannon shot got through, that auto cannon shot took the Manta to only 1 remaining structure point. Then I fired the twin linked Lascannons at the Manta that last shot got through and took the last remaining structure point away from the Manta. In the catastrofic damage roll I only rolled a 4 so the Manta crashed destroying all of the Tau onboard.
Then to add insult to injury the Manta crashed onto his side all but smashing that whole flank.
The imperial Navy flier who shot down that then executed a victory barrel roll as a cheer went up from the Imperial lines. The battle is still far from over, however the balance has tipped to the side of the Imperium.
The 66th has a reinforced tank company on table with a contingent of space marines in a separate detachment.
The other player on my side has a space marine force with a Guard drop regiment.
On the Xeno side there is Tau (all but wiped out). Eldar, and Necrons (severly damaged).
To bad this wasn't a Medusa 5 fight.
