Your gonna love this. Here is what you need.
1) Green Stuff
2) Plastic (not polystyrene) plate that you usually throw away at the company picnic use
3) Something with a wide flat side (I use a sculpting tool)
4) The old style wood pencil that you always chew the eraser off of or it gets hard as a rock
Put a decent amount of properly mixed green stuff onto the wet plastic plate. Start to mash it down and smooth it out. The more water the better as this helps get that nice smooth surface. Turn your wad of green stuff into a sheet as smooth as you can make it.
Next take the pencil and remove the eraser from the metal holding it. Find some creative way to crush the metal portion of the pencil so that its a oval with no eraser. You can do this by teeth (for orky people), pliers (for the tread heads), or servators if you are a marine player.
Start to stamp out the little ovals from the green stuff and let air dry. Once they are sticky again you can easily work with them as so.
Upper ARMS: Check out my beefy new shoulder armor over the seam where arm meets my chest and makes me look kinda roman
Lower ARMS: Cut oval in half and wrap around the forearm of guardsman with round end pointed to elbow.
Front TORSO: Oval over the Gut hides that flimsy cloth from AP 5 weapons as well as your love handles
Rear TORSO: Why would you want to cover your back unless you are a coward. Stand by the standard or have a talk with your local commissar about “duty” and “service before self” instead of covering your ass. Otherwise get creative with the ovals you just made... chicken boy
GROIN: Think of the oval as a really large maxi pad without wings
LEGS upper: Lay an oval either top of leg to the knee or above the knee from inner thigh around the front.
LEGS lower: Around the ankle with some trimming in the back to show off those manly IG calves or cut in half with the round end pointed towards the knee.
KNEES: AFTER you have done upper and lower legs just wrap an oval around the knee and trim as needed.
There are ways to modify this such as shaving body parts smooth first to eliminate the bulk of the mini, or you can skip steps (who needs knee or shin protection anyway). You can also bend the pencils end to meet your own... ends that is. Have another pencil crushed really thin for longer thinner pieces in case you want to do something different like a splint mail kinda thing. I have also tried just a circular piece of GS to cover the forearms and have had good results (but the oval applies better to mass production).
One last note. Lay oval down in front of you and lay two small bits of wire or toothpick end inside about half a pinky apart. Fold the ends in at the same time until they meet (it should be in thirds if that helps). HEY LOOK, I just made a claymore mine. Stamp in an imperial eagle or some such thing for extra flavor. You can now use as booby traps or extra gear for the troops.
The green stuff technique (plate water and the like) I learned from a multiple golden daemon winner at this last gen con ($45 well spent as everything made from GS is apparently "sheeted" out first and never lumped on and sculpted as I use to do). The pencil portion of it was just something I have come up with on my own after years of playing marines (and not wanting my armor saves to go completely away with my new army choice).
I am new to this board and this is my first post. Please feel free to comment on this, give other ideas, criticize it, or email me at kavenger2003@yahoo.com (bftbg79 will get booted to junk if I am not expecting it). LOVE THIS SITE… even if I am playing my IG as bloodpact and I have no idea how to make a neat cartoon avatar like some have here.
