A mounted commander idea.

I know it's posessed but it's still a great model!

Anywho, it gave me an idea for a mounted Officer in my command squad. You don't need to have rules for it, if he happens to get into combat you could just say he dismounts or something.

But I'm wondering what horse model to use. All of the horses are plastic and don't have much detail, even the new Empire horses(they may still be the best bet though). I think it would add something very unique to an army.

What do you guys think? Have any ideas on horse and legs?

You could use the [glow=red,2,300]Ebob Hero horse model [/glow]all though it has no saddle e.t.c. but i'm sure you could GS one

Go for a Cold One

Here is how my Rough Rider Veteran Sgt Looks like, he still needs a bit of work cutting away some GS in places and such. Though I didn't think about getting mounted HSO or Commissars untill now! Think Im going to make one mounted commissar and use him as independent

Oh btw, after I hade made my Cold One rough riders a fellow Imperial Guard player and friend of mine told me there are special rules (chapter approved no worries) for "Xeno Mounts - Hunting lizards" in WD 282 (the one with Sisters of Battle on the cover UK version)

The rules are like this:
Rough Riders Xeno Mounts

The RR change their horses for hunting lizard mounts at 4pts per model. Lizards dont have the sheer pace of a horse and dont get a Fleet of Hoof move. However they improve the riders Armour save by 1 as their thick hides and buld offer considerable protection.

In close combat each rider will have an additional attack at their own Initiative and Weapon skill but with Strength 4 representing the fearsome bite of the lizard. This attack is unmodified by weaponry.

I do love those cold one RRs u made Almost makes me wish I'd gone that route instead of using normal horses lol.

Personnally I think this is one thing that is missing from the doctrines/codex for the guard. You should totally be able to take horses as an upgrade option for your command squads, if you take RRs. You could get a totally different IG army having 3 R squads, and upping all ur Command squads to mounted ones. HSO with a hunting lance and power weapon!!!!!

Anyway, back to reality lol.

The empire pistoliers are quite good horses, and have lots of useful parts you can add to ur officers. There is a great long trench coat, that looks perfect on a IG officer. I'm ust resisting the urge to use some of the ye olde pistols .

If there was one chaos army i would do it would be Uncle Nurgle.That posses commander looks totally awesome.That person really put some work into it.The other ones that i saw the pics to here look really great too.I love the idea of the CW's as mounts and the rules they use with them.
