Stealthy Infiltrators?

I am going to have 2 squads of Storm Troopers acting Infiltrators... I was thinking about them having like a shimmering armour, like a somewhat inefficent cloaking device for their carapace... what is a good idea or some tips on painting armor to resemble this... how to create a sort of shimmer effect? ( It could also be used for deepstriking, saying that thier cloaking devices were working well and the enemy couldn't see them until the moved and revealed themselves)

Well that works well for your units camoflauge, the type of terrain theyre usually deployed in... im looking for some tips on painting myguys armor to look... like a shimmering, or glimmering feel to it

you could base the model completely. take what you typically just use on the base and cover the model in it. if you have a detailed base with spots of static grass and rocks here and there it might look neat - it might also look like horrible poo

just trying to get creative and offer something useful.

really it's about making the model blend in with the game mat. maybe take green flocking and just use that to cover the model with - and pray you never play on a brown flocked desert table hehe. it'd work on your average table.

Hmmm, I'm liking some of the ideas you're giving me about using the same color as my base... though they are trench-fighters and everythings muddy, my bases are bestial brown. The basic color scheme is that of a volcanic ash-waste sort of terrain... so... I am thinking beastial brown with a reddish tint to it, and some dusting with codex grey.... anyones opinions?... any other input is definetly welcome...

buy glossy paint. you can usually get tamika or some other modelling paint in glossy shades, and that'll cover the shimmering effect. you could also put loads of varnish on.

I would use dark colors. Whatever your color scheme is, add a drop of black to it, to get a really dark version of that color. Then go over each color in that color's corresponding ink for a lightly glossy version that reflects the light in the color of the ink.

You could also make a mixture of paint, ink, and white glue (ref. "Ogres to Ogryns" Painting Military Boots us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/imperialguard/painting/ogryns/ogryns3.htm )

You could GS a cape around them paint a thin layer of white/gray then paint a coat of that water effect stuff or varnish over it. but it could turn out completely rubbish. I would test it out before hand.
