Rumours have been floating around for what seems like forever regarding the Dark Eldar getting a new 'dex. However, finally it seems the rumours are leading somewhere and that Dark Eldar do seem set to get a new codex.
Not to get my hopes up, I'm sticking with the 'I'll believe it when I see it' philosophy... But that doesn't stop me thinking. What exactly do I want from a new Dark Eldar codex?
Well...Aside from new models, this is what I've been wanting.
1) The (common) desire for assault splinter rifles. Assault 2, range 18" would be nice
2) Stronger splinter rifles
3) For Dark Eldar to remain the ultimate glass cannon army. I want them to remain a hard to use, specialist army. I don't want every marine player picking them up and claiming that 'they have always used them'. Yes that makes me a snob... But I don't care.
4) Mandrakes to get the option for 2-3 members to have poisoned weapons. Also options for a squad leader. Should have scout and stealth rules.
5) Fluff taking the DE in the right direction (not Chaos Eldar). I no a guy who (used to) write incredible Dark Eldar fluff. Really put it into my mind how Dark Eldar should be. If I read it now, it would probably be pretty dated (he was a mid-teen at the time), but the basic ideas involved would still be great.
6) For there to be more than 1-2 ways to build a successful army. Over the years there has been more than 1-2 ways... But it changes with each edition.
7) Raiders to get Scout.
8) Combat drugs to remain fun... Rather than be overly dumbed down.
9) Squadrons of Ravagers ;D
10) More variety in the codex in general

Scourges need to either be more useful (I'm thinking Relentless, personally) or cheaper (weapons cost the same as those in a Corsair squad).
Dark Eldar need to be the fastest army in the game, even the infantry (maybe infantry getting an Eldar Jetbike-style assault move even if they don't actually charge?).
While Splinter Rifles with Assault would be appropriate, I love my 24" range too much to be willing to sacrifice it for Assault 2.
Dark Lances need to be either S9 or AP1 (Rubber Lances Syndrome seems to have picked me as its favorite).
Terrorfexes, Horrorfexes and Xenospasms must not change (if all they do in the new 'dex is force a pinning test, I will be disappointed to say the least).
There needs to be a more seamless way to blend Kabal and Wych Cult lists.
Mandrakes need to be able to do more than make my opponent slightly paranoid.
Raiders need to be cheaper (like Rhino cheaper).
Dracons need to be like Haemonculi in that you can take more than one for a single HQ slot, but maybe balance it out with some sort of intrigue rules (not unlike the "Oops, Sorry Sir" rule that occasionally killed off a Commissar before the game began in the Catachan minidex).
These are all the ones that come to mind.

That sounds... absolutely terrible.

It is.
Similar to Limp Multi Melta Syndrome.
You'd think with 13 dark lances at 1k... they'd actually manage to destroy something.
What I want with a new DE Codex?
1)To be able to use every Dark Eldar unit I currently own with minimal to no conversion work necessary.
2)A huge batch of amazing new models that will tempt me to scrap the old lot and simply start over.

What would I actually want from it?
The chance to offer my input as it's being written. Basically, just update the current thing to 5th (fixing the units that don't work, and those that never really worked as intended), add a few SR's to make them faster than the now-blazing fast IG, and not change much.
It's really not that broken, just neglected. So don't over-fix it.
