Thank you once again , Elegaic I was thinking that, but then again its hard to tell, I think it might be to scale and the photos just make it look a bit funny. Cheers Happyorange glad you like, and not forgetting Twitch, cheers! It was just normal superglue nothing special, managed to hold it together rather well. Daniel

They look great. I'm going to warn you though. Painting BFG is very addictive. I knocked out 5 Chaos Cruisers over the weekend and a Nurgle Daemon Ship 2 weeks ago so that fleet is essentially done. The only cure is to paint up an Imperial fleet now!
Anyway, I like your limited palette on these, it is fitting. They look suitably heavy and dark (they're in space!) and seem to jive well with the feel of Gothic. I like the touches like stars on the bases too.
I hope you can get some games in at some point, Gothic is really a lot of fun and lends a dimension to 40k that has a lot of possibilities. My buddy and I are starting a campaign that will incorporate our fleets and ground forces across a sector. I've played these type of campaigns in the past and they are awesome.
If you can't find an opponent, pick up a few Chaos cruisers and have at it solo. It's worth it!

Yeti's Yell- Cheers mate I have found out the hard way just how addictive they are, because they don't take too long to paint I end up finishing them then I get bored and decide to buy more :/ robertm- thank you too, I don't like the green and white that GW chose for theirs, just doesn't seem gothic to me. I'm hopefully going to get some more soon so look out for more updates Cheers, Daniel

I like the green and white color scheme that GW puts on their ships. Your paint scheme is very nice as well. Are you planning on doing a whole fleet? And if so, how long would it take you? Some of my friends want to get into Gothic but don't want to spend much time assembling a decent sized fleet.

A good starting fleet is 750 points and allows for fun games. I painted 5 chaos cruisers to a better-than-average standard over the weekend and that is more than 750 points. You can easily get 750 points painted to a table top standard in about 3 or 4 hours since that's only 4 or so cruisers.

Sorry Dedrier for not replying I've been a bit busy. Thanks Yeti for explaining , I don't actually play the game but I might get into it in time. I am planning on doing a whole fleet but mainly for display, although if I do get into the game then I'll be all ready. Daniel

Cheers Twitch. Everybody should check out all of the free BFG downloads, if not for the game then for all of the free, excellent fluff. Tons of reading ahoy!
(you'll find all of the BFG stuff in the spcialist games section in Twitch's link above)

BFG is what Star Trek wishes it was. The Enterprize would be owned by those badboys

I have actually thought of getting into BFG before and never really got crazy about it the way I'm with IG but cosmiccastaway has really shown me what BFG can be. But I'm still flat broke, yay.

Ah BFG goodness and the glory that is the Imperial Fleet... but those Battleships are true EVIL to get to stick together. The results are highly satisfying though aren't they

Haven't checked this in a while, sorry people I've been away for a bit. I'm home now though and was hoping to get some more of these painted up but I found out last week that I recieved a place at the Art College I applied for....and I start Thursday. So there will be little time to get any more of these done so for the time being don't expect many updates, but do keep an eye out nevertheless Thanks Gabriel, I didn't find the Battleship too bad, stuck together fine frist time round, I was just worried in case I dropped it! And thankyou to Twitch and everyone else, glad I could rekindle some BFG love Daniel

Cue space debris ;D .... mine is just a Foundation Art Course for a year to help me build up a portfolio to hopefully get into University for a 3 year modelmaking course Most fun I ever had on a course, art foundation. Stay flexible and keep everything relevant. And apply early for your next course Good luck!

Aren't all the Federations ships "exploration/science" vessels? They aren't allowed "warships"... Just send in an Emperor or Retribution Class Battleship in and take out the ENTIRE Federation fleet

Warhammer 40,000 and Star Trek, 2 of my favourite things . Hmmmm why don't they do a Star Trek BFG type...thing....that would be so cool! Anywho glad to see this thread still lives in some form at least. I'm sorry for the lack of updates, college has taken over and practical loss of job now means I have no money to buy anything . I've been idle on all of my projects but hopefully things will pick up, so again keep an eye out. Daniel

They did do a Star Trek BFG. It was just on the PC.
And actually, I'd have to say that while ships in 40K certainly win in the size department, I think that offensively and defensively, I'd say that Federation vessels circa the end of the 24th century are roughly equal. Just because they're so much more advanced in every way.
Imperial weapons are designed to hit massive targets of the same size. Void shield bleed away massive amounts of energy then disappear for a quick bit before coming back online. Their engines are slow on an unholy level, and FTL is a nightmare. Literally, if the Gellar field fails. Scanning equipment is abysmally short ranged, and a bit shoddy on reliability. Communications... honestly, with the state of communication 'technology' and speed in the Imperium, the only reason it still exists is because it's fiction and the writers say it does. Everything about Imperial ships has massive room for improvement, they just get by by brute force. And let's not forget that scientific progress is actually punishable heresy in the Imperium - so they're not going to get better over time by any great degree.
Starfleet weapons circa Kirk were said to be able to raze planets in a matter of hours. By the time of Enterprise E, they're much more powerful, but they never talk about actually attacking planets. Which is a shame for comparison's sake. Weapons targeting is also much more accurate. Shields are adjustable, but probably handle less than void shields. But the smaller size, better acceleration, and better top speed means they'll take less hits. FTL is probably the safest among all the sci-fis where you don't need something else to accelerate you (a stargate, a fancy space station with lightning for Mass Effect, etc.). And Starfleet ships can go to warp just about anytime they want, and make micro jumps in-system. Not to mention they can fight while traveling at the speed of light because they don't enter a 'hyperspace' or a 'warp.' Scanning equipment also works while FTL, and has a range that would boggle the minds of the Mechanicus. Not to mention the range, as in spectrum of utility. Imperial vessels wouldn't be able to hide with just silent running. Communication is nigh instantaneous for voice only with minimal distortion for segmentum level distances. As for progress, it's basically what passes for religion in Federation society. Every time you turn around, some engineer is inventing something to make the technology better, which is often helpful during a protracted war. And yes, Starfleet does have warships post Dominion War.
After thinking about it, and typing all that, I take it back. If Starfleet were to send wolfpacks of ships against Imperial ships, they'd win.
Edit: More pics, Castaway!

Wow! Those are some beautiful looking ships... I'll have to dig out my BFG fleets (dreading opening the box they were in during my move because I'm anticipating lots of damage) and try to get some pics up as well.
