Hello! I have looked through the archives, and found some folks that said they were thinking of doing a kilt conversion, but has anyone actually done one? Any advice on making the kilt? Or the shoulder plaid? On painting the tartan? Can I fit another question into this paragraph? I was thinking of using Praetorians as a base, and putting kilts on them. They would resemble the Highland units in India during the late 1800's. I was also thinking about making the standard bearer into a piper. I have a few Praetorians on the way from the bitz catalog, and will post pics when I have them done. Thank all!

I choose the Praetorians because I really liked the upper body and headgear. I thought it would be easier to file down and fix the legs, than do the entire torso and head.

The praetorians are really nice models, gotta love the helmets and dress uniforms. I ordered the casualty and its really nice. You could make a kilt wearing army if you did it right.

That is what I was thinking. Something along the lines of the Queensland Scottish Reg. of the late 1800's.
I did an experiment tonight with an old Catachan. I tried a beret and a kilt out of GS. They didn't come out too bad. I will post pics when I can. I found I had a few problems with getting the kilt to flow right, but I think with a little practice it will get better.

yeah GS can be very tricky. If I were you I would just leave em' like regular praetorians. I dunno, kilts kind of look funny now that I think about it, at least out in the battle field...

Kilts would be great.. and I agree that it is probably easier to make legs than the top half.. but I would go marauder legs, cadian body, arms, and head.. can GS the helm to be the pret helm if need be.. I think if done right you could have one heck of a cool army.. the coats might look cool from the prets but I think even the scots would like a bit more protection.. I mean they are already running around in kilts.. why not have some sort of chest protection..
if you get some pics post them mate would be cool to see..
cheers Gris

Using Preatorians *shrug*
You don't wear a thing under the kilt, not even underwear and the Preatorians definatly ARE wearing trousers...

After looking at the mini, I think you all are right. The Praetorians just don't seem to fit well with this conversion.
So after looking at bitz, I think I am going to take your advice. With a couple of slight variations.
First, I like the marauder legs. They will look good converted. And the Cadian torso. But I think I will go with Catachan heads. Easier to put wee little berets on.
Also, are there any arms that don't have the massive pauldrons on them? I like the long sleeves (the reason to not go with the Catachan arms) but would like them to be a bit less, um, armored.
Thanks.

After looking at some of the bitz of other human sized models.. then I would suggest to take them.. carve the pads off and fix the sleeves with GS.. considering how much GS work is already required for these models a little more wont kill you Waiting to see what you are able to create though mate.. Cheers Gris
