need to make an army of Parade Ground Troopers as a PDF for my campaign

a Greyish blue mabye that would look cool with some highlights of some sort.

if its a pdf its got to be real guady lots of gold braid and shiny black boots with white trousers and red piping with the brightist colour jackets you can bare (mine are tentical pink my missus bet i wouldn't paint a squad pink) and a opposing colour but bright head dress the nobility of the impirium love to see shiny brigh things.

Hmm...They must be "shining"! Why don't you try a kind of uniform near the kind the Footguards have: red and gold?
Or you can try some regal blue and gold garements....

What do you need? Parade troopers or PDF troopers? On parades troopers wear dress uniforms. That goes for Expiditionary forces and for PDF troopers. During combat they wear BDUs . So you want troopers for a parade or PDF forces? How to paint field uniforms everyone here should know already  For dress uniforms everything you like is allowed. There are some nice examples in the 'dex already (Harakoni Warhwaks and 8th Cadia). Otherwise Black, White, Red, Blue or whatever you like and what could look good |

hmm, red tunics with black trousers with khaki helmates would look good. Then maybe some white crossbelts and white gaters to finish.

Mine kind of all look like they are parade troops!
They are all wearing blue fatigues and green armor, just try to pick out the most detail as possible, also you cant forget the medals and purity seals!

Ok. Perhaps not everything is allowed. Some combinations are not really good for IG as they look like Chaos Red and Black for example. Dark colours and especially black and red are colours you should be careful with as they can let your troops look really fast like chaos troops.  |

not if it is bright red like the British infantry used to look like in the Zulu and Boar wars. I dont associate them with chaos

Yeah like my guys... Black great coats and Red Gore carapace... kinda looks Lost and the Damned, but they are most definetly not, having 2 commissars in their ranks

Well you could always make highlights and add in a few lighter colours in the details and they can look superb!

You have to do a lot to make it look brighter. And btw not even Commissars are safe from getting seduced by the Chaos...
I wanted my first guardsmen with black cloths and Red Gore armour and they look all like LoD and Commissars look always a bit too dark as they wear black coats.
In the end my troopers got Codex Grey Clothing and Red Gore armour and a lot smaller parts are metallic colours to let them look even brighter

Its really easy to over do commissars.
Making them too light for example.

Red and white is something totally different than pure red or red and black.
And pure red looks strange on guardsmen and red and black looks Chaotic...

i find people get to hung up on this guard/choas thing end of the day any colour you want is good just create fluff to suit why you coloured it that way. bright random colours can easily be justified just look at some of the european royal guards from the 18/19th century especialy the spanish or papel guards like the swiss real bright. don't go all modern they are just a bit dull and greys/kahki's are fine but every one's got some!

@ Stabwhiskers Fire Drakes = strange  @ sammy1979 It's just important that you don't choose the colours that are mentioned as the base colours of Chaos in the Codex CSM which are basically Black, Red and depedning on combinations Gold or Silver. Some of the colours are also the special colours of one of the chaos gods. Black, Red and Gold for example are the colours of Khorne. So do you really want to paint your guardsmen like Khorne worshippers?! I would not! |

am going with classic british american civil war colours for the dragoons
ie green jackets, red or cream trousers and little fluffy hats lol
am using Praetorians and therefore am gonna be in debt for ages lol
