Earth tone generally, dark reds, dark greens, browns, black and dark greys. And don't paint anything that looks like it would be pn a Parade field... if they have been fighting and dying and ducking, and shootings, and killing in trenches... theyre going to be covered in the thickest, most disgusting muck of mud and dirt and concrete dust they are going to look horrid. Just my suggestions anyways haha. Thats how my IG look, and theyre a mechanized stormtrooper army, Death Korps models though.

Yeah, exactly. Also attach bayonets to their rifles for trench warfare!

Yeah what ever colour you choose, add a healthy spattering of brown/grey/green mud.
Also make as much use of hand to hand weapons as possible, bayonets are a must, but also things like spades, knives, clubs, etc......
You could even add spikes to the tops of the helmets if you were feeling creative, gas masks would also make a nice touch.
Gerenal rule, nothing should look new or very clean.

Gas masks? I dunno, seems like WW1 trench warfare.

If you want "trench fighting feel" you needn't look further than WWI Trench Warfare

Like Larkin said you must establish the "trench" on the bases. Give them muddy bases with razorwire and maybe a wooden plank or two as if they were walking inside a trench. Gasmasks can be difficult to model and make them look good, i dont know since i never made them but it sure looks difficult. Speaking of the Deathkorps of Krieg, here is a link to a swedish forum where I and a friend of mine use to hang around, you dont need to know the language to watch his pics though and he is a really wicked painter! He is going for a winter themed DKoK army. He also has one "classic" looking DKoK soldier for test painting purposes, I suggest you check out the 3 pages on the topic and watch his pics www.spelpanatet.se/forum/index.php?topic=82.0
