I was thinking of getting eldar but i'm not entirely sure everything i'm going to get. I'll probably get a bunch of wave serpeants for transports obviously. After that i'll get a farseer (obviously), a few squads of dire avengers (skip out on guardians if i can), get fire dragons, 2 wraithlords (vehicle killing), possibly striking scorpions (i like the models but banshees would probably be better since i need more anti-heavy infantry), definitely dark reapers, wraithguard (oh you know i'm gonna get that against heavy infantry), and maybe some eldar heavy support weapons. I was also thinking of getting a fire prism once but i don't like the model and 2 wraithlords and a dark reaper squad take up 3 heavy support choices by themselves. I may also get some shining spears but that's probably a bad idea because they're not that great and unfortunately you can only have 5 of them in a squad.
I still have plenty of elite and fast attack choices though. I've been wanting to not go the lame route and get a ton of bright lances and instead use the wraithlords str 10 to destroy enemy armor with my other units destroying the enemy beforehand and taking out the heavy weapons so the wraithlords can advance on the tanks without worry. I may get rangers/pathfinders and warp spiders seem fairly fun but once again i have enough anti infantry so probably no warp spiders. My biggest issue with banshees is that they're a measly strength 3 with their power weapons and though their power weapons are cool strength 3 is not esp. if i had to kill stronger and tougher stuff and esp. if it had feel no pain. I'd also want heavy support weapons teams but the problem is most of my force would be transported to the enemy lines and the heavy support teams have a 24" range tops. So that strategy wouldn't work well.
Anyway give me advice and tips or whatever you can. I suppose i could have some vypers with bright lances or something but i don't know if i'd want the bright lances so much. I suppose they'd be fun though.

Well i was thinking of going for blood angels too. I hate elves and eldar btw but i think the army is pretty interesting.
Although i think once i've gotten skaven, eldar, and blood angels added with my imperial guard i'll probably have all the armies i want.

Ah! Bloody Flamingcheesamajig!
No but seriously, the Eldar are one of the most interesting armies in the game, even if I don't care for the fluff. I find the way the army works together is really cool. Go for it dude, and jump in.

I figure i'll get eldar just because almost nobody uses them currently in my store. They're not that unpopular but i want to get some time to fight against eldar so i can get better and i also would like to see how they play out in the game when playing as them. I figure orders and psychic powers that augment units are about the same thing so to an extent eldar and guard are similar in that sense. I have an eldar playing friend but he's not that good and doesn't like playing 40k anymore. Unfortunately he's one of the few that also has dark eldar but i never got to play against them. He's 40k'ed out though and won't play them against me.

I'd wait until they had more plastic stuff. All the cool stuff is metal, and thus overpriced even more than the overpriced plastic.

Shining spears are actually a better deal than regular jetbikes because of this: www.40konline.com/community/index.php?topic=205252.0As for wraithguard, there are always deals on ebay for those. I once picked up 10 of them for a little over 100 bucks. About 101 and change iirc. I would not be waiting for more plastic sets, there are not even rumors of said sets.

I wonder how shining spears would perform. They might do ok against stuff like a carnifex. Still it's not good enough in most ways. I kind of want to use them just because nobody does though and they initially sounded pretty cool. Too bad they are basically beefed up rough riders but there's only 5 of them instead of 10 unfortunately. Seriously somebody should've made their exarch's powers better or at least increase the number of their squad. Point-wise they are much more expensive than rough riders too and strangely enough the str 6 power weapons they use are used in every charge and they are much faster at charging and moving than rough riders.

Nah, work great, hit once then get out. Have a unit to screen your withdrawl as of course Eldar units mostly don't work well alone.
On their own, yes, like most Eldar, they are not so good.

Oh wait do they have 'hit and run'? I forgot all about them possibly having that ability. I know they have skilled rider and they're really, really fast though.

Unfortunately i don't know how much hit and run would help. I don't quite know how to make that incredibly helpful to me. Maybe if somebody somehow engaged them and i wanted to leave combat so i could shoot at them and then re-charge into them so i could get all the str 6 power weapon attacks off.

Wraithlords are great, but simply are not fast enough to be anti tank if you rely on CC. I hate facing wraithlords, but you can avoid them quite easily. Eldar are a great choice (I'm considering going for em, but have a bunch of dark eldar to use, so will go with those first I think, eps with the new dex just around the corner). but they are not easy to use........... you have been warned Enjoy

Yeah well i suppose i could use bright lances to back them up with.
I don't entirely mind the not too easy to play and hard to master sides.
