curse you for living in Philadelphia and not the UK You and me both, especially around election time. Thanks for the support, G.L.! Hellhound time! I'm not in love with this model. It feels dated but it'll do until I get a new one.

oh I don't know - I still quite like that older model... though the cannon nozzles seem more like the chemical firing Banewolf now... Suppose you could use it as any of the varients

Thanks! I think so too. I left just enough blue-grey showing through that it works. I used the same blue-black wash over his coat as I do on the bases before drybrush and snow, so I save a step in painting. I'm looking forward to painting the other commie-sars too. Best, Yeti

Good stuff, is the best way I've found for black cloth with out it getting too chalky or too light, grey with successive dark washes. Looks really good.
Still intreagued by the open tracks on the HH ;D

Still intreagued by the open tracks on the HH ;D That was what I pointed to as a "rough terrain mod." What I don't like about that HH is the lack of suspension elements visible. I have two more Leman Russ started and I'm doing a similar open track style or at least, open bogey wheel design. I think the solid flank, WW1 style hull is cool, but doesn't seem as modern as I want my guard to look like (says the guy w/o the new tank kits with more-modern style turrets and ancient metal miniatures.)

Oh hey, Yeti... Have you ever been tempted to convert up a Commissar Ciaphas Cain and Jurgen for your army? That would be pure awesome if you did...

I haven't... until now ;D That's a pretty brilliant idea, Trooper! I'll have to give it a think. I can think of a few models to start with. Any ideas from your side? The only Commisar model I've really wanted to convert so far is the commie swinging the sword with plasma pistol. I want to convert him to look like Major Toht from Raiders of the Lost Ark... I just don't know how to make the wire rimmed glasses yet.

Heh. Glad to be a source of inspiration, Yeti! ;D I haven't much thought into the models you'd need. Obviously some sort of Commissar with a big chainsword and a las pistol. For Jurgen, you'll need an overweight, rumpled looking trooper with skin diseases and a melta gun...

My fine motor is still back and forth so instead of working on minis this week, I hooked up a small display board, mostly as an army caddy for when I'm moving around at the club and maybe very small games or photo sessions. Originally, this was a board from my super-buddy Wil who worked at a now-deceased GW store in NY. I did little to update it besides scrape most of the static grass off and tidy nicks with filler, glue stuff back down and retexture the thing. I think it was a Lord of the Rings demo board, going by the plastic terrain. You can see the brown layers of texture paint on there now. After this I'll prime it. You can see one of my plague marines on there for scale. It will be finished in the permafrost style of my other terrain and new Valhallans, with that good layer of rime and snow. The thin walled terrain means that I can probably pack a decent amount of minis on there which is good since I'll have to shuttle a ton of guard between tables at the club on this thing. In other news, I complied my list of things to do to get an army to the table, probably more ambitious than just 50 guardsmen by Christmas that I originally promised. This is my task list, not meant to be a thread about army building... so please keep it to modeling level banter Here’s roughly what I’d have to do for a 1500pt army, probably in order of importance. There are more than a few threats to this from Real Life. 2 more 10 man squads each with autocannons (easy) Update colors on Chimera weapons (easy) Update colors on Leman Russ (easy) Paint a standard Leman Russ turret (moderate) 3 regimental advisors (easy) Repaint the weapons on Sentinal 2, dullcote and base it (moderate) 4 members of Platoon Command Squad (easy) 4 members of Company Command Squad (easy) Scratch build a Medusa siege gun (hard) I built my Basilisk years ago with the bay slotted, so that weapons platform plugs into the bay. I figured between the Basilisk, Medusa and Griffon I’d only play one a game anyway. I have another Earthshaker gun I’m going to convert into the Medusa and I’ll be able to just slide that into the chassis. So that’s the hardest task I have. All told I got up to about 1350 points with minimal purchases of wargear, leaving room for that sort of thing later. So that's it for now, hopefully the PCS will be done this week. Oh! About 35 Valhallans are soaking in the strip bath too... Best, Yeti

Initially I was thinking Creed and Kell as well, but agree that the lack of a melta gun wouldn't work. Also, they would need to reflect Jurgen being a blank--some sort of immunity to psychic powers for the duo and any squad they may have joined would be in order. I sense the potential to come up with some cool house rules for them...

The animus speculum and other abilities may make a good start for a profile... Progress: The board, primed.

For Jurgen a Culexus assassin could definitely work, because if I recall correctly, the animus-speculum acts like a melta and they have the Untouchable thing going on...

Don't forget you need an inquisitor to take an assassin. Also take a look at the DH codex.

Don't forget you need an inquisitor to take an assassin. Also take a look at the DH codex. Inquisitor Amberley Vail of the Ordo Xenos perhaps? Edit: Oh yeah, another thing about the animus speculum that would work... IIRC it's an assault X weapon, with X being related to the number of psykers around, or something... In the novels, Jurgen routinely meltas entire groups of foes with one shot, which obviously is not how the melta gun works in game, but for the speculum the ability to shoot more than one target would sort of reflect how Jurgen employs the melta in the novels. Edit: A friend of mine also suggested doing a Fortress of Arrogance type deal and have them mounted on a Salamander as well. WIN!

Thanks. I already have what could play as a Salamander in the works so I got that going for me. This week has been slow on many fronts, physical therapy, research paper for school... hope to have some updates this weekend. Best, Yeti

Small update: - I stripped about 25 guardsmen of previous paint and I'm getting them rebased.
- I have another 20 or so things cleaned and primed. This consists of both Company Command Squad, Platoon Command Squad and various bits for different things, like Chimera riders, weapons for Sentinals, autocannon teams for the finished squads, etc. Pics coming soon.
- I started a blog called Sarcophagi:sarcophagi.blogspot.com/. I'll keep posting updates in this thread but I'll save the longer prose for the blog. Feel free to follow and comment, though there isn't anything up at the moment.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Best, Yeti

Like the look of the board so far.
confession, I have not read those books, but I'd have thought the easiest way to get this sort fo thing to the table, is to supplement them in a PCS, add commissar and melta gun. Gives a few extra wounds, which might not be as fluffy as you'd like but prety close.
Alternatively... Commi Lord and Primaris Psyker. Doesn't give the power of melta guns, but can hit alot of targets in 1 shot, so might be worth it. Only problem is then no CCS........ so personally, I would go the PCS option, as gets the side project in (building the guys you want) while still being pretty good on the table top. Swop to CCS + Lord Commi if you really want pace armour and more wounds.
Oh course, you can just stick em in a regular platoon, or replace an officer with the commi instead, will drop the commi rules, but gain the orders, and as long as your opponet knows what is going on, I can not see it being a problem.
Wish I had the rest of the week off............

While I do really like Abnett's writing, the Cain books are simply full of awesome and win!
