Just a fast update. I can hold a brush and sit for awhile again so the painting is underway. I have the PCS on the table about halfway done and the CCS to follow. I polished off the second sentinal by cleaning the model, updating the colors on the weapons, adding some lining to details and then rebasing it.

I love that camo scheme! Really original - don't think I've seen anyone do anything similar ;D The custom HK missile launcher is pretty snazz too.

I think my favourite thing about this army is that it is somehow really refreshing. A very successful, interesting and effective colour scheme, that just seems to work on all components of the army (sometimes a colour scheme can be brilliant on tanks, but not so good on infantry, or vice versa).
Looking forward to more pics, and happy to hear you're on the meand.

yum! Very nice! Looking forward to see how the comm sqauds turn out. Any chance of some current army pics? Thanks 3ffect! I'll get on that at some point this week. I love that camo scheme! Really original - don't think I've seen anyone do anything similar ;D The custom HK missile launcher is pretty snazz too. Thanks Scarper! I'm happy with them too. I have another armored sent on the bench and 3 scout walkers to build. I just love these things, even if my buddies tell me they are crap in a game. Looking forward to more pics, and happy to hear you're on the meand. Thanks for the critique and support GL, it means a lot. I think what ties this all together is the whole army has a tone of blue green to it, which is right on the line of warm and cold, and works well over white. Glad to hear that you're feeling better, Yeti! Those Sentinels look great! Thanks trooper! So the Platoon Command squad is about halfway there, I hope to have it done by the end of the week. The Company Command Squad will be right behind it and then it's onto the last squad and some autocannons. Also, I posted some other angles of the Sentinal on my blog, Sarcophagi sarcophagi.blogspot.com/

Does anybody have a link to good, downloadable banners to print? Or maybe just templates for that?

Depends what you fancy the banners looking like - typical Guard style banner, something more intricate, or something that refers specifically to your army/your armys "badge".
For typical Guard ones, try the Cadian one (just copy it out on paper) and replace the Cadian Gate symbol with something your army's symbol. More intricate ones can be inspired by modern banners. Something specific to your army can be more difficult depending on what you want to include.
If you have a look at page 3(I think) of my Zion Rifles thread, you can see my basic variation on the Cadian Standard - might give you some ideas.

Thanks GL. Your banner looks great and gave me some ideas (you have a great army!)
Image for banner: I'd really like to find something graphically that can repeat. Colors I'm not so worried about as much as the image. I'm handy with photoshop so I don't think it will take much to get something decent.
I'd like to avoid the classic Soviet imagry as much as possible so I may just stick with an Aquila and some nice type.
Any ideas on images are welcome, thanks guys!

Hmmm, how about something involving a Valhallan gutting an Ork, or standing on a pile of dead Orks, or something along those lines?

Hmmm, how about something involving a Valhallan gutting an Ork, or standing on a pile of dead Orks, or something along those lines? Oh, good idea. Double so since I was going to make Orks the opposing army for these guys... hmmm. The Uplifting Primer has a great pic of a Guardsman running through a dopey-looking Ork. Maybe I can swing something like that, just more serious. Hell, I may have to dust off the drawing pencils again! Thanks Trooper.

Just remember, once you've done it, we DEMAND pictures Of course! I was just cruising the news on BBC.com at lunch. I saw an ad for The Economist, showing an article with a painted illustration of a Communist in uniform riding a horse while holding a very young Korean or Chinese boy. Check it out here: Next of Kim, The Economist: www.economist.com/research/articlesBySubject/displaystory.cfm?subjectid=1530567&story_id=17101170I think I may do something like that, with a battered Valhallan riding a horse over piles of dead orks, ice mountains and Aquila in the background, holding a Valhallan youth in his free arm. Thoughts?

Sounds like an interesting proposition - just don't put too much detail in as it might get a bit cluttered/indecipherable on the small scale of a banner

The Platoon Command squad is ready for stain, so here's a before pic. I'll finish them up with basing and post their final pic some point tomorrow I think. I have another round of priming to do this weekend as well: - A handfull of vox units
- A few random Valhallans
- The Company Commander
I have a post on my blog Sarcophagi about the Company Commander on my blog and pics of him mocked up. Let me know what you think : sarcophagi.blogspot.com/2010/12/40k-valhallan-commander.html

As promised, here is the completed Platoon Command Squad. More details are on my blog Sarcophagi: sarcophagi.blogspot.com/2010/12/40k-valhallan-platoon-command-squad.htmlI have another 8 man squad and 3 autocannons underway. I think that be done on time for my "50 Valhallan IG by Christmas" oath but I'm actually working more towards a 1000 point list for an upcoming batrep over the holiday.

Thanks G.L.
I mention on the blog that I'll get to the banner soon. I have finals this week. After that I'll fire up the gimpshop and make a platoon banner for this squad and company banner as well.

Ha, no worries - just jesting with you They really are looking good, and the scorched effects on the ends of the meltagun barrels has worked very well. A real beneficial part of it all is the tone of the wash you've used - the blue hint really adds to the cold feel of the models.

Nice job on the Command Squad Yeti, the army has been coming along nicely in my absence. The second Sentinel is pretty good.

Ha, no worries - just jesting with you You sir, keep me honest. And that's why you are a friend. Nice job on the Command Squad Yeti, the army has been coming along nicely in my absence. The second Sentinel is pretty good. Thanks dedrier! That command squad looks great! So have you decided on what the theme for the banner will be? Thanks Trooper! Actually, no. I need to get on that. So just a fast update this frosty December evening in Philadelphia... Over finals and exams last week I updated and detailed a Leman Russ and Chimera, previously started years ago. They are essentially done but I may add some touches like spall marks along the hull and scorching around the heavy flamer. Also, I think the blue is a little too intense, I may tune it down. But that will be later, good enough for now. Also, I painted up and glued on some stowage. I think it adds character to the vehicles. Last model count had me at 40 IG completely finished… that’s 10 to go before Christmas to keep my oath. So last night I made some plasticard connectors for the autocannon gunners, whose hands don’t really reach the trigger spoons. With them, I’ll paint the final 10 guys and hopefully meet the oath on time. I’ll post up progress on the squad as I go. Happy Holidays everyone!

You have a nice looking army! The Pig Iron heads look fantastic on the Valhalla bodies. They are just right to emphasize the veterans from the rest of your army. Nice glow effect by the way. I am also a fan of your tanks
Nice work and keep going! -Magg

They make a good conversion stupid easy. Thanks for the feedback!
