Just for reference when taking pictures in the future: Which set of pictures do you guys think look better, the ones with or without the horizon in the background?

Without and I'd have used a grey or light blue back ground to make the guardsman "pop" cool conversion !! Alternate titles..... "I find your lack of faith disturbing!!!" or maybe "Apology Accepted, Guardsman Needa!" "I'll be back, you WON'T!"

echo comments above, cool conversion, love the pose of the Necron leaning to counter the weight of the guard.
With horizon adds a nice feel to the images, gives them a bit more depth.

That's really cool, I have a friend who is pains takingly reposing most of his necrons like this, I am going to show him this thread.

The camera angle depends on with whom you want the viewer to identify. From above, you give a feeling of control, so it emphasizes the necron. If you take one level to them, it's sort of putting the outcome of the fight in question - maybe the S3 guardsman will be clever enough to win. If you somehow managed to take a picture looking up at them, it would emphasize how hopeless the fight was for the guardsman.

I have to say that I really love how the Necron just kind of picked him up to study him like a bug.

I love stuff like this. Were you thinking of using it as an objective marker?

Definitely a successful conversion - you can tell from the parts you selected that you really thought about the poses of both models. The Guardsmens legs are ideal, his outstretched arms fit brilliantly, the slight tilt to the Necrons pose, even the way it's head is slightly cocked. Really well done.

This is an awesome conversion! You should do an "after" conversion as well of the Necron holding the guardsman's head, with a gory dripping spine extending from his neck, and a decapitated body crumpled at the Necron's feet.

I love stuff like this. Were you thinking of using it as an objective marker? I wasn't planning on it. I have a necron battleforce that I'm working on as a second army to use against my IG army when I teach my son to play 40K. He likes the "robots". The stock poses are kind of limited and boring after a while, so I started hacking the models up and altering the poses. The idea for this one just popped into my head and I sifted through the bitz from my guard army and put it together. The guardsman models are actually pretty versatile and you can do a lot with them. Necrons take more work, but it seems like they have potential for conversion too.

Or I could do one after the guardsman stuffs a krak grenade in the necron's chest cavity. IG is my favorite after all.

Comic drawing, actually. But the same theory applies to most visual media, as it's a psychological thing. "I need your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle." That post is made of win.

Just wondering, but did you sculpt any of this, or is it all just bitz?

I hacked up a necron warrior and re-assembled it in the pictured pose. I had to cut the left hand off of the necron gauss gun, which required making a new long 'strut' for the gauss gun out of strip styrene. I also cut the necron's neck out and sculpted a new one using green stuff to get the head tilt right.
I also had to carve up the guardsman a little bit to make it fit. I made some relief cuts on the right side of the helmet, on the right side torso armor and on the left arm. I had to sculpt the left armpit area with greenstuff to get the left arm on at the correct angle. The guardsmanss arms are the ones holding the bandage from the command sprue. I cut them up to remove the bandage and sculpted new thumbs.
So, some very minor greenstuff work was needed. I'd give it maybe a 3 difficulty on a scale of 10.

Given that this is an IG board, would it cause a lot of grief if I were to post pics of some other necron conversions I'm working on in this thread?
Unlike the one above, they don't have anything to do with IG.

I'd say go for it! I'm a relatively new member, but it seems that people here are always happy to see shots of awesome work.
