Ok, this is a rework of the Iron Aquila story:
Enjoy and thoughts are welcome.
You may have to refer to my unit fluff at the bottom of my sig.
Hicks had been laying in his bead awake, staring up at the arched ceiling of his suite for some time before the data-slate started to chime. Without looking he reached over to the nightstand next to the bed and grabbed the chiming data-slate pulling it close to his face. It was only after tapping the screen and then entering his personal code did the message flash across the screen, it was an urgent message from Gorman, the company rep. Hicks started grinding his teeth and shaking his head in disgust, how he loathed Gorman. An image of the Company Rep flashed across Hicks mind, black slicked-back hair, dashing good looks and with a smile that could kill. He was physically flawless in looks and mannerisms; everything about him reeked of slimy company politics and back room dealings. Gorman was a snake; Hicks hated him yet the Company forced him to work with the bastard. Calming himself Hicks sat up and swung his legs over the side of the bed letting his feet touch the marble floor. The floor was silky smooth and comfortable cool on the bottoms of his feet. Reaching over to the side of the bedpost Hicks activated the ruin key that controlled the window blinds. With a low hum the blinds lifted slowly allowing the white moonlight to spill into the room. Still holding the data-slate Hicks slowly stood and stretched his tight musicals allowing the white light to wash over his naked body. After a long moment of stretching Hicks silently stalked over to the window, never once making a sound. The absolute beauty of the landscape that swept out before him struck wonder in his heart. The Company owned resort was nestled deep in the Sawtooth Mountain range over looking the large city of Vicksburg. The soft glowing city lights set against the backdrop of the snow covered pine forest was breath taking. It had been so very long sense the harden combat veteran had seen something so calming and beautiful. While admiring the beautiful landscape the Staff Sergeant’s eyes caught movement at the edge of the clearing before him but still inside the tree line. The movement was slow and constant; the many years of experience in the furnace of war and combat told him that there was a patrol out there on the move. Slowly but surly a heavily armed five man security team with three Cyber-mastiffs entered the clearing. Hicks felt a smile creep across his face, even in a beautiful mountain resort the Company was there, watching and waiting. In truth, the Resort was just a private getaway, a compound, for all high-ranking Company employees and military contractors. It was a subtle attempt by the Company to keep a close watch on its employees. Though military contractors where not required to stay at these resorts the Company tried its hardest to keep them there by catering to ones every need. Even with these luxuries arrangements most of the Staff Sergeant’s squad was out there in city doing Emperor knows what. A slight rustling of sheets and soft footsteps snapped Hicks attention back to his local surroundings. Seconds later he felt a pair of warm, gentle hands, slide around his hips clasping together over his rock hard abdomen. He could feel Victoria’s tight and warm naked body press tightly against his back, her soothing touch made his battle hardened defense melt down and away. The two warriors had been part-time lovers for three years; this was their first time together in eleven months. Victoria, or more formally Warrant Officer Victoria Leeds, an Elysian, also shared Hicks career chose as a military contractor. From the cockpit of her Company-owned Vulture gunship Victoria ruthlessly protected, all company assets, investments and ventures. She enjoyed the freedom, pay, and most of all the excitement, of a military contractor.
With sadness in her voice Victoria broke the silence,
‘It’s the dreams again isn’t?’
After a long moment Hicks whispered softly, ‘Yeah, even after ten years they still come.’
‘ What’s the Company want now?’ asked Victoria
With a shrug Hicks said ‘ I don’t know, but what ever it is its important. Gorman sent me a Zulu-level message; I’m to meet with him in three hours on the Sulaco.’
The pilot made no attempt to hide the concern in her voice ‘The Sulaco?’
Now starring at the moon Hicks said ‘Yeah, the Sulaco, the entire squad has been recalled too…
