I was looking at some of the wonderful conversions on the site and decided to go for broke and finally scratch build a hydra. I apologize for the pictures my digital camera refuses to work so I'm stuck using my phone.
I decided to use a Manticore chassis as the base for my conversion. Not wanting to lose the ability to field a Manticore I started by making its missile rack removable. At the same time i made the hydra's parts removable to.
Then I started building up the hydras sub base out of thick card.
After that I covered up most of the heavy card with some thinner plastic card. At the same time I also used the thin card to make armored joint bands.
Today I picked up and aegis defense line kit and have started using the quad auto cannon parts to make the turret.
I ended up cutting off the bolts and I will replace them with some round plastic stock that I will cut into rivets and the other armored bands on the hydra parts will get them to. To cap off my building for the day I began to mount the auto cannons.
I still need to make a targeting dish and I have a top hatch from an old leman russ that I'm going to mount to the top of the turret. The turret can rotate but I currently havent decided where Im going to mount it. I would like to know what you guys think. And If you have any ideas id like to hear em. Thanks for the read.
