Hello IGMB! Today I have a question regarding the modeling of guardsmen wearing kilts. I have been trying to find good kilted plastic (or metal) models to steal legs from, and have some mixed successes: First we have the Victrix highlanders, who although are decent models are an odd scale, so te legs look a little wonky. They can be found here: www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/victrix-28mm-british-napoleonic-highlanders-flank-companies-p-17858.htmlThe other option are some metal clansmen from ebob miniatures, I personally think they're nicer minis and look like a better scale, plus theyve got a netter range of poses. They can be found here: www.ebobminiatures.com/products/clansmen.jpgWhat do you all think of these? Does anybody know of some better bits I could use or know if greenstuff is a better option? Thanks for taking a look

www.victorialamb.com/store.htmlcheck out the kilts there, there are 3 metal legs with kilts which look quite good, also heads and backpacks as a bonus. I want so badly to do my army with kilts, but it won't fit my figures or theme : ( Once you finish them up, be sure to post pics so we can enjoy!

Oh my those are simply gorgeous! I'll certainly pick up 100 or so of those! That's the problem with imperial guard...I'll need 4 veteran squads, 2 platoons, and 3 command squads worth of those legs.... However thanks to you pipingpiper I shall have saved swaths of money and possibly weeks of time converting my men! You sir, are a hero to the 5th Sidhe Aerial Regiment!

1. Getting these to work is going to be a challenge. Most miniatures producers make 28mm miniatures with the heads, hands and weapons slightly too large (say, 1/10th).
Games Workshop produce 32mm miniatures with monstrous ham-hands, heads larger than their torsos and six-foot assault rifles.
Using other manufacturer's stuff is a problem, but if you say the Highlanders are of an odd scale, they might actually work.

Well RT I found a picture that shows a Cadian body with the Victrix legs www.wargamerau.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t80854.html I don't think it looks bad persay, just a little odd, and not as beefy and heavily muscled looking as the rest of the model. I think the vitrix scale is better than GWs, because skinnier, less hammy guard would be better contrasted by the hulking space marines. However I think in this instance the Victoria lamb minitired are a better choice, even if you don't get 60 for 18 pounds!

After looking at the pictures of the Cadia/Victrix conversion, I think that it might work. The proportions look a little odd, though. You should shorten the hip area a little bit. Look at the picture what I mean: I think that you should shorten it even more to get the right proportions, although you should keep an eye on the joint face. Otherwise it could become a little difficult to glue on the Cadian upper body -Magg

Wow that looks a lot better! I might do that for my platoons while my veteran squads get the Victoria lamb models, since I like the poses better. Thanks for taking the time Magg, I really appreciate it

No problem. Gimp makes everything quite easy Have you already checked out the models from Infinity? I do not know if they meet your taste, but take a look here. Just check the column on the right for the other Highlanders -Magg

Those are pretty sweet I've got to say! I was looking forward to converting my own, but I think I'll use the William Wallace model for my Creed, but I'll need to give him two pistols too! I might get the ones with swords too so that I can have a couple charging models, they might not fit in with Cadian style body armor though, which I the only issue! Also the Wulver grenadiers are just amazing models as well. They'd make good sergeants! I might buy them and the 45th rifles unit just to get a bunch of cool unique looking sergeants.
Again Magg thank you so much for the great links!
@rolling thunder. I know. GW is the bane of my existence...try building 120 skeletons for VC where the joints are the size of this -o- and the link between torso and legs is smaller...oh and they also break easily! Or if you want to have a lot of fun make a black coach! That model is so easy to make...yeah. Or even better! Hellcannons! The best designed GW model by far! Believe me I feel your pain. The infinity models make GW look like poo.

Apologies for the double post but I do not think my question will warrant a new thread. I have purchased the Victrix models and now all I need are the heads, and I need 60 of them... I have been looking at the space wolf unhelmeted ones but *shudder* the Goku hair is a huge turn off. Are there any other heads you'd recommend for an army that is Scottish? I'd like beards if possible, long hair is good too. I suppose I could sculpt them onto Cadian heads, but id rather use as little of the Cadian body as possible. One of the chaos marauder heads was awesome, but only one of them, and I need to have variety. The Flagellants sort of have beards...but they are also ridiculous... Does anyone have any suggestion? Every little bit is appreciated

You should take a look at the heads from Micro Art StudioThey have some bearded knight heads: and some bearded barbarian heads: I hope this helps. -Magg

Ah those are really nice I like the commando ones as well, but they are a bit more expensive. I might use a mixture of the commando heads, the knights, and the barbarians. Perhaps some of the less ridiculous space wolf heads as well. Thanks for you help Magg!

Gawd, those Victoria Lamb bitz are fantastic. I wish they'd been around years ago, I'd've built Highlanders!
The only option I've thought up is to use Praetorians, but paint their pants as tartan trews.
On the same note, are there any good piper figures that could be converted for 40K? I want one for my "Border Regiment" Guard. The only thing I can think of is Trooper Milo, but he's long OOP.

Ooh, thanks for the heads-up. Still, only three of those figs would really fit into my army.
