As promised in the Today thread here are the battle reports that were the christening of my new Space Wolves. There are only 2 Battle Reports done at the moment. Its like 2330 hours here. So bedtime. I'll do more tommorrow hopefully.
Today I played 4 500 point matches in the local GW Escalation League against BA, BA, then a 4 way bash with IG, CSM, BA and me (no alliances) and finally against Nids. I used my newly anointed Space Wolves. My list was the same every game. All games were played with 2 objectives (one per side), except for the 4way which had 4 (one per deployment zone).
HQ
Rune Priest Mar the Coarse w/ Plasma Pistol, Living Lightning, Jaws of the World Wolf
Elites
Wolf Scout Pack (5 Wolves, outflanking)
Lone Wolf Brand Grimmhammer w/ Thunderhammer, Storm Shield
Troops
Grey Hunter Pack (5 Wolves)
Grey Hunter Pack (5 Wolves)
Blood Claw Pack (5 Wolves, Rune Priest goes here)
The First Match
I got first turn. The First Match was against a BA army. The list was something like this:
-Commander Dante
-6 Sanguinary Guard
-Sanguinary Priest
(The special rules for the tournament allowed this. Also it is all one squad)
The Board
We played on a board with no exceptional terrain. Two craters in my deployment zone on the right, next to eachother. The rest of the terrain didn't matter.
Objectives:
Mine was in the right side of my deployment zone, in the right crater.
Oppenents was directly up the board on a hill in the open.
Deployment: Pitched Battle
I deployed my Grey Hunters on the Objective, with one squad either side. The Blood Claws with the Rune Priest were in front. Lone Wolf in reserve. Wolf Scouts outflanking.
My opponent was going to deep strike the whole army.
Turn 1
I moved my Blood Claws up the field, then ran, trying to take the objective.
Turn 2
Same for me.
His force came on about 12 inches in front of my left Grey Hunters, nearly in line with the Blood Claws.
Turn 3
My Wolf Scouts came on, but unluckily on the left side of the board. I deployed them level with my zone and had them run towards my objective. My Blood Claws turned to attack the enemy. Blood claws fired on the BA and killed one. The Rune Priest used Jaws of the World Wolf but I rolled 11, failing the leadership test. Grey Hunters both shot at the enemy, killing 1 more. I then charged into combat. Dante attacked first killing my Rune Priest. Then my 2 of my Blood Claws killed the Priest, and the other 3 killed one Sanguinary Guard. He then killed all but one of my Blood Claws (he held!). Then he used Hit and Run and lept towards my Objective.
Turn 4
I ran my remaining Blood Claw towards his objective. I was half an inch out of range for shooting with my Grey Hunters pistols. The Scouts ran towards the battle.
His force assaulted the left Grey Hunters squad, killing it outright. Exceptionally good rolling on his part. He consolidated closer to my other Grey hunter squad.
Turn 5
My remaining Blood Claw made it to his objective. The Scouts ran towards Dante and his crew. The Grey Hunters shot (no kills) and assaulted the Sanguinary Guard, two of them dying to Dante, but the rest managed to kill the remaining Guard. I had actually forgotten about my Lone Wolf after turn 3. He came on too late to do anything.
Then Dante killed the last 3 Grey Hunters, consolidating towards his objective.
Turn 6
My Scouts were in range and shot and charged Dante, taking off one wound with shooting and one wound with combat. He then Hit and Runned and went towards his Objective. He made it close in his turn but was one inch out of charge range. The Blood Claw survived his shooting. Then the Game ended. I contested 2 objectives and he contested one. Victory for the Sons of Russ!
The Second Match
The second match was against BA again. I got first turn again.
-Mephiston Lord of Death (this guy is a one man rape machine)
-10 Assault Marines (Combat Squads, Sgt has a PW, one marine in the other squad has a PW)
The Board
Same Board.
Objectives:
I put mine in the same place.
He placed his in front of the hill, as close to me as possible.
Deployment:
My Deployment was the same, except with the Lone Wolf just behind the Blood Claws, my plan being to assault with the Blood Claws, and let them take the brunt of Mephistons hits, then move the Lone Wolf into the vacated postion and lay some serious smack down.
He deployed his two squads as far forward as he could, in line with my objective. In the middle was Mephiston.
Turn 1
My Blood Claws and Lone Wolf ran up the board. Everything else sat still.
He used the Wings spell, and Mephiston came flying across the board. The Assault Marines followed.
Turn 2
Blood Claws and Lone Wolf moved. Not in Charge range yet, so close though. The Rune Priest used Living Lightning and took one wound off Mephiston. No Scouts this turn.
Mephiston tried to use a boatload of spells, all of which the Rune Priest dispelled, heh heh heh. He then assaulted me with Mephiston and one Squad of Assault Marines, the other squad moving towards my objective. Mephiston acted as planned and wiped out the 3 of the Claws. The Assault Marines killed my Rune Priest. Then my remaining Blood Claws killed 2 Assault Marines. However due to his wrap around my Lone Wolf couldn't get to Mephiston so he contented himself with pulping the skulls of the remaining three Assault Marines.
Turn 3
Wolf Scouts arrive on the right side of the board, in line with the enemy objective. I move and run them as close as possible. No shooting. Mephiston kills the last two blood claws, and wounds the Lone Wolf. The Lone Wolf failed to wound (I rolled snake eyes).
His other Marine Squad assaulted my right Grey Hunter Squad and killed 3 of them. I killed one back. I lost combat and he caught me. I failed the armour save (No Retreat special rule) and lost another Grey Hunter. Mephiston squished the Lone Wolf, consolidating towards me.
Turn 4
My Wolf Scouts are now contesting his objective. The other Grey Hunter squad charges into combat with the Assault Marines, and one Assault Marine miraculsly passed 4 armour saves. The remaining Grey Hunter of the first Squad died.
Mephiston flew and used his boatload of spells. I had no Rune Priest to dispell. Basically he caused 14 unsaved wounds on my squad. They died. Quickly. And messily. His remaining Assault Marine and him consolidated onto my objective.
Turn 5
My Wolf Scouts stayed very still and quiet, hoping to avoid being seen my Mephiston.
Didn't work. Mephiston flew all the wa across the board. He attacked my Wolf Scouts, using his boatload of spells. The good news? He got Perils of the Warp three times! He suffered 3 more wounds! He still managed to kill all but one of my Wolf Scouts. The last Wolf attacked back, and managed to wound him once. Then he failed his 2+ armour save! Mephiston had fallen. However the game ended then with him controlling one and me contesting. A minor setback in the path to victory.
So far so good I reckon. I'm thinking of tweaking the list, based on the results of the Blood Claws and the Rune Priest never shooting his pistol. The next two matches solidify some of my ideas. I'll post the updated list as soon as I finish writing it, which will be after the second half of this report is done.
Cheers,
SaN
