the first tank in a imperial guard army is always an important thing but what I'm planning on doing is kinda difficult. the guard army i have started is going to be kinda like Russian army from WWII (enemy at the gates style ). basically as many infantrymen as i can with my 3 heavy supports being filled by 18 mortar squads and a basilisk. the basilisk is the tank in question. I'm thinking of taking a Russian truck model from a random model company(if you have a suggestion on where i could find on I'd appreciate) and add a earthshaker platform on the back. so what do you think? comments/ tips/ criticism welcome

Hmmm, you've got something going on there syrinx, well my tips for now is basically researching about russian artillery vehicles/tanks on wikipedia, to get a basic idea of what they look like, how they operate. Love the idea though "enemy at the gates"

what kind of infantry are you using? Vostroyans? Valhallans? Cadians?
just curious.
Personally, I'd go for a basilisk painted and emblazoned with russian iconography. add some russian-type stuff.

well I'll be using cadians but I'll add a red flag to all my officers....and I'll give a red star icon to all my models....if you have and idea where i could find 200 small red stars please tell me.
my main banner will portray GLORIOUS STALIN...just kidding it will be and old USSR flag but my main general will be named Stalin for sure
and did i mention that i was gonna do (in games) exactly what the Russians do at the beginning of enemy's at the gates(except my guys will be supported by artilery...24 mortars to be exact)
if you have ideas how i should paint my army (as i haven't found a suitable design yet) please share it with me

Ah, the Russians. Enough to tempt anybody to play guard! Its an awesome idea you got there, consider it borrowed without consent or intention of giving it back.
Makes sure to go for greys and murky greens on the camo. Add lots of fabric camoflauge over the open platform. The russians did a good jobs of field improvisations from time to time, and its certainly worth modelling a bit of that.

For the Basalisk conversion, I would use an ork vehicle and stick a earthshaker to the back.

You could try and make one of those rocket launcher vehicles that the russians used (I forget what they were called but I know they were nicknamed Stalins Organs) out if a whirlwind tank, that might look good.

You want to Vallhallens, they make better looking russians.
I watched Enemy at the Gates, and it made me want to make a Russian Style army.
But yeah, keep the colours dark, greeny brown. Except the Commissar, make him Red and Black. Plus, all the snipers keep thier rifles kept in swadding. so use Catachan Snipers and use some Green Stuff on them.

yah, its all in the practice. you get enough in a blister to last about a month if you use it liberally. it can be kinda tricky, but the results are cool.
