----SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT ---- I used the Cold Ones for my Rough Riders.... Nothing overly flashy, Im sure there are many things I could do to improve them.

Hey cool you found a resin one. The ones I was thinking of would probably be made of rubber so this is probably a step in the right direction. Alas having recieved your praise for the idea I think I'll 'have' to do it now edit: Looking through the stuff on that site makes me fantasize about seeing someone do a display piece of a large, deep lake filled with that glue/varnish water that you see sometimes with some guard crossing mounted on the seahorses that they sell.

Pax Urbis that scout bike conversion is awesome! Any chance that you could post some more photos of it from different angles, please?

I've started a thread regarding how I did my Rough rider... commissar.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Painting&action=display&thread=12262That Cold one and that Terror Bird are awesome examples of animal mounted rough riders. The Cold one is especially sweet with that killer paint job, love the colors and the faded look.

I think that someone was playing too much joust when they came up with those mounts. They look like they would stand out on the battlefield though.

I cant help but imagine them in yellow....They remind me of Chocobos. Great idea though, just noticed the top one has Forgeworld Elysian legs, the padding looks really good on the riders.

If i remember correctly one of the Dan abnett books, Straight Silver, has a mounted unit that rides giant birds. and the Final Fantasy reference wasn't lost on me either.
They are pretty strange models, but they would look impressive on the table top.

Yes, I was thinking of those struthid riders too. I was thinking at one point of using Death Korps to represent a Guard regiment from that planet. Now this is the best Rough Rider mount:
