I know...I'm posting a lot of these threads for alternatives to GW minis, mostly b/c I don't have the money to get the authentics. I was wondering if the human minis from AT-43 could be used in combination with IG. Will they size up? Thanks!

I haven't seen any minis that are especially cheap. U won't be able to play competetively using non GW minis, but if ur mates allow it, u'll get away with it. I'd strongly advise against it tho. Just start off slowley, painted every model u buy b4 getting any more and u'll be suprised how things soon mount up. With a bit of thought and simple modeling, u can make almost everything u will need out of very basic parts (ie the cadian infantry box). Tank commander heads can be used to make officers, etc. Minis are not cheap tho, DOW might be a good option to try, 1 off paymetn for lots of fun. and no painting

Lol dawn of war, its graphics are the best I have ever seen in any RTS. Every guardsman's face is perfectly textured...anyway, back to topic. If you want cheap miniatures, i would suggest 2 things. 1st, only buying non-GW when you buy tanks. They cadian infantry is (relatively) cheap, but the tanks are pretty far out there. Plus, the cadian plastics are pretty good. Also, tanks can vary greatly over the galaxy. And/or 2ndly, buy your stuff 2nd-hand. It may be harder to find, but finding someone who will sell you old stuff will save loads. I got 1000 pts of guard with 2 tanks for $70, and another friend of mine is selling me tons for even cheaper.

I normally just play with my friends locally here. I know I should stick with as many genuine GW minis as I can, but my budget for 40k is close to non-existant thanks to college. However, a lot of my friends back home do a lot of mini gaming with other series, such as AT-43, Urban War, etc, and are looking to sell some to me at a steal. That's why I was asking about this.

First take it from an AT-43 player: You really dont wanna do that for more reasons than I can say. BUT! If you are going to either way with friends I can only say: you have guts. If you will still sue them then go Red Blok. They have cool camo. But remember you didnt here that from me.

Thanks again for all of the insight involving this. Right now, the only non-GW minis I have are a few female Spec Ops minis from ShadowForge for HQ choices. Otherwise, that's all I've got. I'm probably just going to convert a lot of non-GW vehicles for heavy support and try to stick with genuine GW minis as best as I can. Again, thanks for all the advice. I honestly appreciate it!

Forgot to mention in my earlier post. Ebay is an excellent place for finding cheap minis, often with no paint on at all (altho u can usually pick up really badly painted ones for peanuts). If u are playing with mates tho and have access to cheap alternatives that will still look good and make u feel proud (come on that's half the fun) of ur force, then go for it. The post above reg non-GW tanks is a v good point. a friend of mine picked up a load of WWII German half tracks for his orks, and they look awesome. However, you HAVE to post some pics when they're done so we can all have a good goggle
