So I just put the turret on the new chimera model and I am pleased with how it changes the profile of the tank. It seems to be a lot more "light tank" looking now. The thinner track sections seem ok and the tracks themselves are easier to fit, as would be expected. I'm also liking how the weapons seem to be "push fit", unless you go for a HB turret.
However I don't really like the back hatch, it just doesn't seem to want to stay shut without blu-tack. Maybe with a lick of paint it will but i'm not hopeful. The door is also cast into the rear hatch so I now can't do an open door conversion without ripping apart an old kit or getting an old kit online.
The lasgun holes have an annoying notch too. I'm guessing they will need some greenstuff (I hate the lasguns on chimera).
So I thought I would start a poll - Old vs New, which do you prefer and why? I like the new one for ease of construction and being slightly thinner: all the better for getting down city streets.
What do you think?

As much as I like the old ones, I love that the new kits have the options in them. No need for expensive Forgeworld parts!

I'm an old school fan. Just don't like the new turret. Although I was pleased to find out that the new tank will still accept the Chimera interior conversion from Forge world.
The Old Chimera in my view is so much nicer.

I did like the old school chimera better as it came with an accessory sprue for options. What I don't like is that now you can not interchange the two "IE" new turret on the old chimera,But the upside is now the track assembly is now easier to build, and has a slimmer profile.

I did love the look of the old chimera and the extra bits sprue.
But the easy track construction has sold it for me.

I have to agree. Just put my first new Chimera together and the entire kit is worth it just for the track assembly.

Because of, or despite the notches though?
I like the word notches mind.

Not really a fan of HBs myself, I prefer ML/HF.

Honestly? I have both and I haven't yet noticed much of a difference.

I'm with Trickstick on the ML/HF for armament, but I've used the turret HB in conversions. I love the new kit for it's tracks, mostly, but also like the slimmer sides. The one thing that bothers me is that GW said "Sure, we'll make the turret bigger!", then they only made it taller, not wider....

Because of, or despite the notches though? I like the word notches mind. Notches. In spite of the notches. Good word though, notches. I'm with Trick and Reds, ML/HF = Good, HB aren't really my weapon of choice in any situation. There always seems to be a reason not to take them. I think purely the track assembly is enough to win most people over. Paradill

If I knew I would always play against anything with a 4+ that had some aversion to cover (aspect warriors perhaps, or some tyranid things. Are genestealers still 4+?) then I would jump all over heavy bolters. As it is I like the duality of flamers and lasers, one for any occassion. This is odd as I normally go for single purpose units, it just seems to work so well with mobile chimera.
I do like the turret though. Looking back at the old ones they are a bit odd looking next to the taller style. If I had one bugbear (ah! a bugbear!) it would have to be the tightness of them. I even found it difficult to fit at first and it needed quite some preassure. After spraying I'm not sure how bad this is going to be.

I've seen the HBs used on Chimeras being used in Leafblower lists, where they serve as cheaper, tougher HW squads to compliment the firepower of an IG squad with a Lascannon or AC. In that role, they do okay, but if you run your chimeras as mobile units, that heavy flamer can really hurt someone, and provide some much needed muscle against interloping 4 or 5+ infantry. Ask Trooper 1974 about my Hull HFs on my Chimeras if you want evidence...

I know of the awesomeness of flamers, just ask my deathwing opponent. They are always the first to go on a weapon destroyed. Sometimes I think it is just a psycological effect on the opponent, then 3 chimeras fire at some teleported terminators.
I love the smell of terminators in the morning.
