I'm working on trying to find some vehicles to use for my new IG army. I'm trying to get some civilan-style vehicles like police cars to go along with a PDF battle force. What scale should I be looking for? Thanks!

I recently converted a rough rider using a Tamiya scale 1/35 kit. The Cadian model was a bit smaller than I would have liked but I still think it looks good. I hope that helps.

I'd look for the 1/50-1/48 kits.
Tamiya has some great WWII and some modern 1/48 kits that are closer to the 28mm sizing than 1/35, not sure if there is enough variety in that scale for your purposes, though. And do not count out other mini companies - GZG, Old Crow, DLD Productions, even cardstock models look good if you have the patience to build them up right...

Also - diecast. There are a few semi-futuristic "Corgi" or other diecast vehicles out there that are easily converted with a simple disassembly, strip & repaint.

the tamiya vehicle accessory kits are great for 40k, considering alot of the stuff in 40k is very exaggerated in size. the actual vehicle kits are alittle big though, they do still work most of the time though.

On average, 40k vehicles tend to be rather unrealisticly small and, as Kommisar said, have exaggerated guns etc.

Yup, 40K vehicles are unusually small, so I wouldnt really worry bout the size as long as its not a major difference.

Yeah I often wondered how 12 men were supposed to fit into a Chimera. I suppose you have a great deal of width when choosing what scale to use when you look at the Banablades size compared to a Leman Russ.

Well 12 men fit in a chimera easy...they cram in there. The chimera is only used to get you across no mans land quickly while giving off some cover fire.

Have any of you guys read "Rebel Winter"? Those Vostroyans practically live in they're Chimeras!

About what scale would be right to make a modified M113 APC count as a Chimera?

"Yup, 40K vehicles are unusually small"
"how 12 men were supposed to fit into a Chimera"
Come on, now, guys... the vehicles, just like the models themselves, are only "representations." You do not have to actually cram 10 SM's into a Rhino model or 12 IG into a Chimera model.

Regarding the size for the M113, not sure how you can do that without buying the different scale M113's kits you can find (1/32, 1/35, 1/48, 1/50 maybe?), building them up and finding out the the footprint, then comparing it to an actual Chimera footprint.
footprint = front/back/sides measurements; how much area it takes up sitting on the field...
