Ok, so I just ordered myself one of these: I'm going to turn it into a commissar, any ideas? My plan was to replace the sword with a bolt pistol, give her a sword in a scabard somehow and then model a hat onto her, possibly with green stuff. I hope that it doesn't end up looking too weird. It is arriving next friday, so I have a week to plan what to do. Edit: Sorry about that, looks like i grabbed a https url because I was logged in to GW. Fixed now.

I'm afraid I'm just seeing a couple of blank lines here. Which is a shame since I'm quite interested in filling out my ranks with a more gender balanced force.

I think that this conversion could work quite well...

I actually use this fig for my commander, but she would work well for a commissar as well. The only thing she would really need for a commissar would be to have a commissarial hat, but you will need to give her a bit of a hair cut to make it fit well.

You could use green stuff to smooth out the ruffles on the coat, and the garter belts on the legs. Probably more greenstuff for the hat. You can easily swap the sword hand for one holding a bolt gun or pistol, or make it a power weapon. You could also use greenstuff to make lapels on the front to hide the cleavage a bit, but it would make that gown look more like the great coat that inquisitors wear. And speaking of a great coat, you will have to make a belt for it as well. I'd keep it loose, since the coat looks open.

Ah, I see it now... That wouldn't be a bad conversion at all...

I'd like to add one thing before you commence. Are you aware that female commissars are usually only attached to all female regiments? Ciaphas Cain in the Valhallan 597th was, as far as I can recall, an exception though that was a mixed gender regiment. Perhaps it would be interesting to create a commissar for both genders, if your regiment is mixed.

Usually being the operative word. I'm certain the Imperium makes plenty of exceptions when it is useful: For example an all male or mixed regiment from a loyal and faithful but matriarchal culture. I think that it is just a question of practicality, will the commissar in question be effective in their duty or will something like height, gender, facial features hamper them in their ability to control and discipline.

Not if they're a good commissar. In the grim darkness of the far future the one thing standing between a man and cowardice is the knowledge that there is something infinitely more terrifying only a short distance behind him.

You could use green stuff to smooth out the ruffles on the coat, and the garter belts on the legs. Probably more greenstuff for the hat. I think that I will keep the ruffles, maybe do them in a red trim or something. It seems a shame to get rid of all that detail. I'm either going to try greenstuff or just steal this guys hat: I'm not that good at sculpting, I can do most minor things well but an entire hat seems daunting. This guy was my first ever officer, so it would be nice to get some use out of him again. I think that I would change the shape a bit though, more like a normal commissar with a pointed front. I may even just take the peaked bit and build greenstuff on it for the top.

Having painted that model (the countess I mean *) I can confirm the ruffles are nicley sculpted. Also, the hand holding the sword is a seperate piece - so should make the conversion work easy. I was actually considering using the model for a new Inquisitor... when I get round to it... *she's on one of the Baneblades as Don Quixote's "mistress"

I'm either going to try greenstuff or just steal this guys hat: My vote would be not to raid this mini for the hat, as it is an awesome classic piece, and it would be a shame to destroy it for bits. Perhaps you could nick a cap from one of the capped officer heads in the Cadian command squad instead? I used Cadian officer bits to make a "Junior Commissar" overseer for my Penal legionnaires, and when painted up that cap looks quite Commissar-ish...

So I picked up the figure today, it is a lot smaller and thinner than it looks. I may try that head trooper, I know I have one but cant for the life of me remember what model it is on. It is definitely unpainted though. Rather than the officer I suggested, I found an old mostly destroyed Yarrick. Here is a random Yarrick picture from google: The hat is just slightly smaller than her collar. I will compare the two hats to see wich one is best, although I'm thinking that the officers will not look fancy enough. It may look better to have the smaller hat though, and will be much easier to work with plastic. On another vein, I'm wondering about sword placement. The one that comes with the kit looks nice an I am thinking about putting it either next to the arm on her hip or tied into the bow at the back. We shall see which looks better.

Ohhhhh! If you have an old Yarrick that's already been damaged, his hat would look awesome on her... *Drools* However, if you decide to use the hat that I pictured, it can be found in the Cadian command squad box.

Im not sure if Yarrick's hat is a bit big for her though.
I do have a command box I just cant remember which model has that head. I know a veteran sarge had it for a while until I redid him. I seem to redo my models a lot before I paint them. My russes, for instance, have gome from standard (lc/hb) to flamer, to just lascannon and back to standard again, all the time swapping stubbers in and out. One of them (my first one) has gone through so many iterations I have had to add hull repair plates. I looks good though.

But women like big hats... Don't they? Whatever you end up doing, I'm sure that it will look awesome.

Hmmm, I had forgotten about this thread.
Commissar Amzid is looking good. She got Yarrick's hat with a bit of greenstuff to cover the join. She also got one of the bolt pistols from a new chimera kit, which worked really well to replace her sword arm. The sword got the hand cut off and put in a scabbard below the hand on her hip.
In the two battles she has been in, the first she was one of only two survivors against some (old codex) GK termies and a grand master. In the second she basically sat in a ruin with twenty men and shot Marbo.
I'll try to get some pics at some point.
