Morning all. It was a while ago that GW changed the consistancy of their inks to be much thinner and less strong. I used the old ink on my flak armour, as seen below. Problem is that I just ran out of old ink, and the new one doesn't look anything like the old. I've got another 70 odd infantry to paint and I want them to match. Can anybody suggest somewhere I can get a brown ink like the old style GW one?

I know there's a Michael's in my area that carries about 50 different colors of ink, I had to thin it out the one time I had to use it. It might take a bit of looking or experimenting, but it might work...

Might work if you tried actually painting the armour in something like Snakebite Leather, then going over it with the new ink? Not sure, but it might give you something reasonably close...
Other than that, it's a case of trawling local independant stores to see if they've got any of the old ink left in their stock rooms.

I know this isn't the correct thread, but I love the paint scheme. As for the ink, you could indeed try to buy some of the old inks from retailers. Some of them occasionally still carry those. However, I think your best realistic best is to prowl around for inks from other companies that come close to the original ink you used.

Where you based? as www.blackhat.co.uk/coat_darms/ are the old school GW paints, all the old colours and inks. UK site tho, not sure if they ship internationally.

The Vallejo Model Color line of paints was specifically created to cross-match with Citadel colors for those painters that prefer the Citadel colors, but want Vallejo-style consistencies and paint droppers. They have inks as well...
Vallejo Brown Ink (#72092) is what you would be looking for in Vallejo.
FYI, for any that are curious - Vallejo's Model Color line DOES still keep in stock color matches to many OOP colors that Citadel discontinued...
(Citadel Name) = (Vallejo cross-match)
Vile Green = Foul Green Storm Blue = Stormy Blue Nauseating Blue = Sick Blue Leprous Brown = Filthy Brown
You get the idea...

Thanks for your responses guys. I picked up a Vallejo brown ink today. It is a close enough match for the time being (tournament in a month). It is much darker than the current GW ink, but still isn't quite as intense as the old one. That said it is still quite dark, and the finish isn't so shiny.
I will look into some of your other alternatives for a closer match when I'm a little less pressed for time.
And thanks mardaddy for the product code, it helped immensley when dealing with the incompetant shop attendant.
