But as we get older we wisen up a bit and realize that we still had a lot to learn. And when we are old enough to actually realise that one day we will die. We also have to concede that we hardly know anything at all.

I see your point, but the guys weren't saying 'haha, I'm better than some new guy who's only 14,' they were annoyed and angry by the fact that his temperment ruined the game for Paradill. There's no fun in playing a sore loser (or a sore winner) and there's no fun in being one. Fair enough to be upset when you take a beating; it happens to the best of us but when someone lets this get out of control and ruins the game for others it's gone to far. If someone can't find it in them to try and make the game as fun as possible for everyone then I really don't think much of them as a person. Paradill did the right thing in the game mentioned, his opponent did not. Well, some did so in a very condecending an impolite manner (as pointed out above). Picking on a small kid on the internet is not a behaviour I associate with good sportsmanship. Now, I also dislike sore losers and people who take the game too seriously (like the person Treadiculous mentioned) but instead of making fun of them behind their backs I have a better solution; I simply just don't play against them. Also expecting a fourteen year old kid to behave in the best manner is kind of ridiculous. Of course younger people will be more upset than (most) adults.

I missed that the first time around Shostak, and have to offer a +1 for that, especially since you are a young-ish fella yourself (16? I cant remember, sorry!) and the most sporting and fun person I've ever played against ;D I think some very valid points have been made, and that both players having a laugh (even if they get their asses beat, as I sometimes do...) Otherwise, whats the point in playing a game no-one enjoys?

I have to say, i've never had anyone burst into tears during a game, although have being accused of cheating on various occasions back in fantasy..... Kid playing dwarves underestimated my Knights/ Warlord on Juggernaught and it ran quite a lot of things off the board or into it. But ah well, hopefully this player will be less emotional and (pardon my harshness on a child) 'Man Up' with time

The best way to deal with problem players is to keep a dreadsock to hand at all times.

Paradill, it was nice of you to offer him his Tyrant back. That's the kind of attitude this hobby needs, not "haha, I'm better than some new guy who's only 14!" I see your point, but the guys weren't saying 'haha, I'm better than some new guy who's only 14,' they were annoyed and angry by the fact that his temperment ruined the game for Paradill.
