I'm currently looking to do a quick Colossus conversion using a Chimera chassis and a Imperial Heavy Mortar emplacement from Forge World ( www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Guard/Imperial_Guard_Emplacements/IMPERIAL-HEAVY-MORTAR.html) It would be a really simple conversion/kit bash from the looks of it. Simply sliding-out the earthshaker platform on one of my Basilisks (I'm a good boy; didn't glue it in) and putting the mortar in the back instead and DONE. What I'm wondering though is if anyone has gotten hands-on with the mortar model and verify that it would indeed fit in the chassis, or if anyone has done the same conversion... |

The heavy mortar is what the griffon is armed with. Effectively all you would be converting is a griffon, as it is far too small for a colossus.
I would recommend either using the basilisk earthsker as the basis for a conversion, or simply buy a colossus from FW.

The Colossus is based on a Leman Russ chassis, and has a MUCH bigger gun than the Griffon mortar.

No, the Colossus is still based on a Chimera chassis.
Your best bet is either to buy the Imperial Bombard from forgeworld; which looks about right, or do something radical with Earthshaker bits and a cardboard tube.

I know of the Imperial Bombard, but that's an expensive model; its $90 US. Trying to find ways around that. I did find a nice conversion someone did that used a Shadowsword/Stormlord kit, I may look into that.

I've seen converts done using the Imperial Bombard with a Chimera chassis, its a fairly simple conversion.

Just to point out that althought Bombard uses LR chassi it also has chimera's stats (12/10/10) so i don't see problems in using bombard. Only real problem is that Bombard doesn't have hull weapons. |
