Another golden guardsman competition has been and gone, and now its time to look towards the future. I was thinking that the next competition could be based around objectives, as so many of our games include them, yet so many of us continue to use coins and dice (or if its me, mini eggs. Victory never tasted so sweet..... ). I am open to suggestions however, so I propose a week of banter regarding our next competition. For purposes of deciding what is going to be done, general agreement on coolness will be counted (EG 'that'd be cool' 'thats a good idea' 'Id like to do that')

How about some vehicles? It hasn't really been touched on, and its a staple of IG armies.

I like the objectives idea, but I think they could be catagorys for this. Eg: cat one on 25mm base, cat two next base size up, and cat three other size.
other idea could be to make it more generic. Wounded troops could be the theme this time round. Or boobie traps (no dirty minds please boys!) Sort of objective orientated...

The first idea worries me, as it would mean more organisation, which surprisingly I loath. Putting 7-8 peoples WIPs and entries into a further 3 catagories (and keeping track of them) probably would drive me mad. I think the second idea would be good with a combination of them. EG A booby trap, wounded trooper and one of your own choice, mounted on a base no bigger than 60mm. How about some vehicles? It hasn't really been touched on, and its a staple of IG armies. The thing is, most of the forum already have vehicles built and painted, and getting someone to splash out £30 for a new vehicle to take part is a big ask. I am all up for hosting one though if theres enough interest, so Im not writing it off!

yeah fair one. Maybe the ' your own choice' shouldn't be restricted to base size to give people more freedom?

+1 to Objectives... but will it have to be Imperial? I hope not...

Objectives sound cool , so I'd vote for this vote as well.
Understanding how the themes are selected, I'm worried that one working their way through an IG army will never have the opportunity to enter minis, since the categories will mostly exclude the dozens of minis we have to plough through (like, say, the 15 infantry, 3 valks and 2 sentinels I try to paint to a decent enough standard)...
I'm cool this this concept, however it should then be advertised as such.

Yeah, it would be great to have a showcase of models from peoples armies, although Im hazard to call it for reasons stated above. Is that another 'vehicles would be cool' vote though, Has? On an aside, what vehicle in particular would be good to do, do you think? Vehicles are a bit too open I think, I wouldn't feel right putting up a sentinel against a baneblade as theres a great deal of effort/expense difference in the two models.

Well, yes it is I also find it strange that a painting competition on a IG-centric website avoids vehicles, it feels contrary to the nature of the army. Anyway, another issue might be the frequency and the timeframe to prepare submissions. I know it takes me about 2 months' time to get a vehicle painted, because I don't have much hobby time normally, and because my standards of painting for everything that's not infantry are much higher. I just won't be able to submit something done during a single month. Aside from that, it would be choosing between painting for an entry and painting to play my army, I know what my choice will be I can't remember as I'm typing whether the site as a sort of "showcase gallery" subsection where one could brows through pictures of others' armies, but this definitely is something I second, although of course that'd be without scores/competition as there as as many levels of painting and targets as members of the forum.

Well have a set type of vehicle for each comp? So Leman Russ for one comp, Chimera for another, etc..

Have a sentinel masterclass. The humble sentinel can have so much done to it. So many bad things...

I think the objective idea is great, as it allows everyone a good rummage through their bits box and there's no need to shell out for a new model.. and everyone will benefit from getting nice objectives to use in games!.. I think the catorgory should be open as it allows even more freedom for creativity... and maybe people could enter more than one objective with each one counting as a seperate entry?..
I am planning to get a solitary sentinel as a command sentinel thing, so would support a sentinel master calss too, but thats just because its very convienient for me!

More than one objective: Yes
More than one entry: No
This is to avoid 'the shotgun effect': If you throw enough, some of it will stick.

3ff3ct really doesn't understand the Guard. FIRST RANK, FIRE! SECOND RANK, FIRE!

Haha yeah usually its just 'everyone fire at anything that moves, untill it stops moving!' or 'sacrifice yourselves so I can shoot it some more next turn!' Who needs tactics when youve got bodies?

Highly complex tactics revolving around adding up the amount of men and then subtracting that by the cost of the objective then you factor in the enemies forces then you... Ahh just send 'em all in the more the merrier!

Ok theres ten votes (as far as I can tell) with two for vehicles. This has been noticed, and I think we will do some form of vehicle next time round. However, this time objectives win it! I will post entry conditions tonight. Thanks for the input guys
