Well, I was wondering how you guys sculpt carapace armour onto your Guardsmen, and, if you can, could you please post pics of some?
Thanks, Neutralyze. ;D

This is how I do it on mine. It's an old model and I don't get fingerprints on my minis anymore but the way I do my armor is the same. Obviously this is a combination catachan-cadian; cadian arms and head, catachan torso and legs. The best way to do the armor is o layer the GS so that you can have clearly defined parts. I'll be sculpting more eventually so I'll probably be able to give better advice/pics then.

If you check out the differences between a normal cadian, and a storm trooper armour, u see the differences between the armour types are quite small. Basically the armour is the same except that the carapace adds a few more plates.
I've made 2nd storm trooper sarg using a junior officer model, and GS extra plates. Haven't got any pics atm, but will post some later, but you basically need to make 3 plates to be attached just below the belt, 1 for each thigh, and knee, and add gauntlets/hand protectors. U can build up the shoulder pads if you want to, but it isn't needed IMO.
Can take a bit of time and a few efforts to get just the right look, but is fairly simple to do. If you are going to make lots of them, ie, all ur guards men, then make several sets of extra plates in one go on a plastic bag, and do them all together, just before the GS dries out too much for sculpting.

I don't really have money for GS (college), but if you want a more ramshackle type of look, I would find some plastic yogurt cups and trim them up and embellish the cadian flak armor with some of the bitz you get from the cups. It sounds kinda haggard; I know. But I'm sure if you're steady enough with a hobby knife and scissors, it'll look good. It's a possible alternative to GS.

wow thanks guys, the heads were from PIG-IRON productions. It's a nice company not big and delivery's fast enough to me. The models are a fraction smaller then the GW models. But as you see on the photo it fits nicely. @ cobaltsentinel and commisar, you've insulted the poor guy! as it is not just a guardsman with a lasgun. It's a grenadier (storm trooper) with a hellgun I might open a topic about the regiment (it's WIP). But I need to take the time for it. But if there's intrest for it, then I'll be happy to do it! zumbaz

In fact in painted a number to indicate the ammo in the gun in the sight just like that halo gun. (I thought that a halo gun had that)

That would work really well if you just flattened out the rear slope of the lasgun, by the way in case any one was wondering the weapon in reference is either the MA5B(from Halo 1) or the MA5C from Halo 3.

As you all very well know, the Imperial guard are drawn up from thousands of different planets and so Carapace armour looks different from regiment to regiment. Personally, I like the idea of Carapace armour looking like medieval plate armour, even in a mechanised ‘high-tech’ army, the contrast between old and new looks cool.
Another step-by-step guide for you….
Step 1:- roll out some green stuff on to a damp sheet of plastic, cling film or even a plastic folder insert will do. Step 2:- roll it out flat with a rolling pin like tool. Step 3:- Cut it in to small rectangular strips. Step 4:- layer the strips down the arms making sure the strips over lap. Step 5:- Do the same again down the legs.
Using a set of tweezers to position the strips will mean that you do not have to smooth over the strips afterwards with a wet finger, which I have found sometimes loses the hard edges of the other strips layered above.
