This is my first battle report, so go easy.
Ok, there were actually two games. The first was seize ground/DoW. I immediately conceded, and asked if he wanted to play again. ^_^ I’d like to justify it fluff-wise as my commander would say: “So, let me get this straight. We’re going to go out and fight fornicateing vampire marines at NIGHT? Lieutenant, are you high?”
So, actual game is capture and control/spearhead. BA player goes first.
The setup: BA has a 10-man tac squad with a missile launcher in cover right by his objective, a vindicator, a furioso dreadnought with blood talons, honor guard with 2 storm shields and capt w/ thunderhammer, rhino with 10-man tac squad w/ lascannon, stormraven w/ 5-man death company all with pwr fists and death company dreadnought, and Mephiston. He has two Baal predators in reserve.
I have a squadron of two Hydras, squadron of two Medusa (with camo nets), and a Manticore all kiddie-cornered in my DZ blocking my objective (which is in my corner); in front of all that artillery, I have a 20-man infantry blob w/ a commissar w/ pwr weapon and all sgts have pwr weapons as well, and a special weapons team w/ 3 demo charges. Surrounding all of this, I have six chimeras: one carrying my CCS (w/ 4 plasma vets, OoF, Astropath, and Commander w/ plasma pistol; all have carapace armor), one carrying my PCS (barebones), one with a melta vet squad with demolitions doctrine, and three empty; and finally, a hellhound w/ multi-melta (because I was out of chimeras), all this forming a wall of steel providing cover for my blob and my artillery, and also making it insanely difficult for my opponent to get to my objective. In reserve, I have two vendettas each with melta vets and demolitions doctrine.

Movement: spec. weapons team hops into the nearest empty chimera.
Shooting: Hydra squadron fires at the stormraven; 5 shots hit (after TL), two shots glance, result: shaken and stunned. Medusae fire bastion breacher rounds (nothing in range for regular shot) at his honor guard squad; one blast hits, the other deviates; four wounded; takes two on the storm shield guys and they make their saves, other two are vaporized. Manticore fires at the furioso (2 plates), initial one misses, second one scatters right on to the furioso; penetrating hit, result: shaken.

Movement: BA player disembarks the death company and the dread from the stormraven; moves them six towards my DZ; Mephiston, Wings of Sanguinius successfully goes off and he moves 12 towards my DZ; Honor Guard also moving 6 towards me. Moves the rhino with the tac squad towards me attempting to flank.
Shooting: Death Company runs 6, Dreadnought runs 3.

Reserves: both Vendettas successfully come in (Astropath, you rock); outflank rolls were in my favor and they both come in on the board edge that BA’s DZ is on.
Movement: deployed both vet squads out of the vendettas; shuffled my chimeras around a little and took a gamble and moved the one carrying my CCS to meet Mephiston with its 9 plasma shots. My hellhound moves up attempting to flank.
Shooting: CCS fires all 9 plasma shots at Mephiston, 5 hit, one of my plasma vets dies from Gets Hot!; Mephiston successfully saves all but one (cover; dammit…); Medusae fire bastion breachers at the DC Dreadnought; both HIT, PEN, and EXPLODE. Fired Manticore at the Honor Guard, swing and a miss. Fired Hydras at the stormraven; shaken (way to go, Hydras…). Vendetta 1 fires a lascannon at the rear armor of the furioso in BA DZ; nothing; vet squad from Vendetta 1 fires meltas at rear armor of the Vindicator; 2 hit; 2 pen; IMMOBILIZED and WEAPON DESTOYED (demolisher cannon, duh!); Vendetta 2 fires lascannon at the rear armor of the rhino carrying the 5-man tac squad; penetrates; shaken; vet squad attached to Vendetta 2 fires meltas; 2 hits, 2 pen, 2 explosion results; BA loses 4 guys in the explosion.

Reserves: one Baal comes in, outflanking on my board edge.
Movement: Mephiston and Death Company close on my CCS chimera; Honor Guard moves 6 toward my DZ; furioso moves toward vet squad attached to Vendetta 2. Stormraven moves 24 towards my DZ in an attempt to flank, and meets my hellhound.
Shooting: DC fire infernus pistols at CCS Chimera, making it explode, I lose a plasma vet and my Astropath. Furioso fires heavy flamer at my vet squad, killing 5. The tac squad fires regular flamer and rapid-fire bolters wiping them out. Tac squad in cover fires missile launcher at Vendetta 2; hit, no pen. Storm raven, using power of the machine spirit, fires a multi-melta shot at my hellhound; it hits and pens; stunned. I should mention at this point the BA player COMPLETELY FORGETS ABOUT HIS BAAL PREDATOR THAT JUST CAME IN.
Assault: Mephiston and DC assault the remnants of my CCS; Mephiston kills all but my commander; commander swings back at Mephiston, doing nothing; Commander falls to the pwr fist attacks from DC. Mephiston and DC consolidate 5 inches toward my DZ.
-Turn 3-
Movement: moved the chimera carrying my spec. weapons team about 8 inches to meet DC and Mephiston, and they disembark; moved the chimera carrying melta vet squad #3 forward to meet Mephiston within 6. Shuffled my chimeras carrying my PCS and the other empty one around to box-in the Baal.
Shooting: PCS issues order to the infantry blob FRFSRF at DC; order goes off; out of 56 shots, 22 hit, and out of 22 hits, 6 wound; DC successfully saves all of them. Vet squad fires meltas and throws demo charge at Mephiston; 2 hits on melta, demo charge scores a hit (and accidentally kills a spec weapon team member. Whoops.) ; all wound; Mephiston’s down to ONE WOUND. Attempted to finish off Mephiston with Medusae; fired bastion breachers, only one hits, rolled a 1 to wound. Desperately trying to kill that bastard before he begins to nom on my artillery, fired Hydras at him; 5 hit, 4 wound, made all his saves. Guess he lives for one more round. Spec Weapons team throws two demo charges at DC; one deviates one inch, the other is a direct hit (7 total hits); 6 wounds; bye-bye Death Company. PCS Chimera and the empty one fire mutli-lasers into the side armor of the Baal; empty chimer misses all three, PCS chimer gets three hits, two of them pen, and a WRECK result. Manticore fires at the tac squad in cover by BA player’s objective, rolled only one plate, deviates way off. Vendetta 1 fires at the furioso; one hit, one pen, result: weapon destroyed. Vendetta 2 fires at the furioso; all three lascannons hit, two of them pen, result: immobilized and weapon destroyed; the furioso is now pretty much out of the game.

Reserves: 2nd Baal doesn’t come in.
Movement: Mephiston moves toward my Manticore. Honor Guard still moving closer.
Shooting: Tac squad in cover attempts to fire missile launcher at Vendetta 2 (huh…its like totally forgot I have two of them, even though Vendetta 1 is RIGHT BY THEM.); it misses. The other tac squad (who wiped out the vets) fires a lascannon (yeah, I know, don’t ask…) at Vendetta 2; it hits, and a pen, and Vendetta 2 is now immobilized. Sotrmraven fires assault cannon at my PSC chimera, all in all weapon destroyed (multi-laser), and using power of the machine spirit, fires multi-melta at my hellhound and misses even after TL.
Assault: Mephiston assaults my Manticore, Sanguine Sword goes off so he’s swinging at str 10; and out those five pens (didn’t move so auto-hit, and str 10 against rear armor so auto-pen), got an immobilized, weapon destroyed, and a bunch of shaken results.
-Turn 4-
Movement: Moved the chimera carrying vet squad #3 to catch up with Mephiston. Moved the chimera carrying my spec. weapons team to meet his Honor Guard.
Shooting: Vet squad attached to Vendetta 1 fires meltas and lasguns into the tac squad in cover; no effect (all cover and armor saves were successful). Vet squad #3 fires meltas at Mephiston, only ONE hits, but it wounds successfully, taking him out. My spec. weapons team throws their last demo charge at his Honor guard; direct hit; only two wound results; he loses a storm shield guy. Now that the Honor guard is definitely within 36 inches, the Medusae fire their standard shells at them, one deviates off, the other is a direct hit; he loses his other storm shield, and is now left with just the captain w/ thunderhammer. Hydras fire at the stormraven again, and all I get is a shaken result. Vendetta 2 fires lascannons at the tac squad from the destroyed rhino; all three hit; all three wound; 3 dead; they pass their leadership.

Reserves: he totally forgot about his 2nd Baal. LOL
Movement: Honor Guard captain moves to engage the chimera carrying my spec. weapons team.
Shooting: Tac squad in cover fires a missile at Vendetta 1; no effect. Other tac squad fires lascannon at Vendetta 2; no effect.
Assault: Honor Guard captain assaults the spec. weapons chimera, causing it to explode, and the entire spec. weapons team was wiped out (not that it matters; they were out of demo charges).
-Turn 5-
Movement: Vet squad hops back into Vendetta 1; Vendetta one hauls ass and goes flat-out toward his objective, placing it within 3 inches to capture/contest it.
Shooting: PCS issues order FRFSRF to my infantry blob against the Honor Guard captain from 12+ inches away; he takes a wound. Hydras fire at the stormraven and do nothing (I’d be really mad at my Hydras if not for the fact that they’re only 75 pts each. They’ve REALLY been underperforming lately. Statistically, I should have taken that stormraven out by now…)

Reserves: He pretty much just said screw it and didn’t bring in the other Baal. LOL
Movement: In a ballsy move, he moved his stormraven flat-out the full 24 back to his DZ to meet Vendetta 1.
Shooting: fired missile launcher from tac squad in cover at my Vendetta; successful hit, successful pen, rolled my flat-out cover; SAVED. Using power of the machine spirit, his stormraven fired multi-melta at Vendetta one; hit, pen, EXPLODES, I lose half the squad, however, they are still within 3 inches of the objective. They pass their leadership.
Rolled to see if game continues to turn 6; it does not.
Aftermath: ok, at first we thought it was a draw, since I had no troops within 3 of my objective, and he had his tac squad near his and my vets were contesting it, but, upon measurement, his tac squad was 3.5 INCHES FROM IT, thus, making me victor. I really wouldn’t call this a sweet victory, as it really seemed like my opponent was a novice and didn’t know what he was doing. One thing I really did notice was the psychological effect of Valkyries/Vendettas in play here (“Ahh! It looks big and scary! Kill it!”); after killing only one vet squad, he COMPLETELY ignored the other one and proceeded to concentrate his fire in his DZ on the Vendettas, which became his downfall.
