Here is my entry for a terrain contest for another site. This month's theme was containers. My entry is, Imperial Observation Post 12. I started with some pieces of containers that I thought looked cool to make this:

Starting at the bottom, it sits on a CD, the clear piece is a fruit cup container, topped by a toilet paper roll dispenser spacer, the blue ball is the cap off a motel shampoo container, then comes the top of a Zap a Gap bottle, and the tan top is a lid from a microwave soup container. I hope it looks like a radar/satellite dish
Knowing the skills of the terrain building competition I knew I needed more. So I added this:

It is a box I found at a big hobby chain that is used to contain jewelry/etc. I thought it would make a good fortification:

I drew what I wanted it to look like then used a hobby knife (very carefully cause they're sharp you know) to cut out the slits.

Painted up the two items came out like this:

I know they look impressive by themselves they needed even more, therefore I came up with Outpost 12:

Adding all the insulation foam and then cutting away everthing that didn't look like an outpost then painting it to look like it was built into a solild rock formation I came up with this:
