About to start painting my Demolisher, although the rules at my local GW requires models to be painted or at least base coated they let me off as they love the beauty of my DKoK, but even before I can start the base coat one dilemma has hit me, track guards or no track guards. Im torn between the two, part of me likes the look but also hates the tracks. It may sound simple but once I put them on thats it no change (could magnetize them but its extra hassle). Of course painting and weathering will alter the looks any way but was wondering what your opinions are to finalize my decision. Tracked guards: No-Tracked guards: Thanks

Will the track guards interfere with the traverse of the turret if you have them on? If they do, I'd say leave them off...

I like to imagine that track guards would be used for the more special vehicles as added protection. Meaning command tanks and elite tanks. I will leave them of for my Russes, but as the demolisher is sort of an elite tank, it will get them. I also intend to add track guards to my company command Chimera's. Just my take of track guards or not... But I see you already have Russes with track guards so I would definitely add them to your Demolisher. It will look naked between the Russes...

I can never decide if I want to put track guards on my tanks, they seem bulky and kind of gaudy and out of place to me, but at the same time I do like how they look. I've been torn about track guards since I assembled my battle behemoth... I would say magnetize so you can switch back and forth, but it is a pain the butt and more work cut out for you as well.

I personally like the look of them off, but that would look weird if all the other tanks had them on.

I found that once I glued the track guards together I didn't need to glue them to the tank itself as the shape is quite 'figure hugging'... they sit on the tracks happily through games and can also be moved a little to represent immobilised results. Okay so it means a tiny bit more painting, but its always good to have options.
Personally i never equip my tanks with the track guards these days as I prefer to use the points elsewhere.

I think the issue with me is that it is a lot of open clean plastic. They need some bullet holes, or chunks taken out of them. Check out treadalicious' dozerblade's on his "glorious tanks thread" The battle damage he's added to those would break up the clean smooth plastic some, then I guess I would like them a little better. There just isn't enough detail on them for me.

Thanks for the replies guys but now I think Im even more conflicted to make a decision lol. And I dont think there would be a post without a reply from Kriegeirk Guess Ill paint the tracks seperately and see what the final work is like.

Looks way meaner with out track guards! My $.02 I agree the other two Russ have sponsons and track covers if you painted them as only slightly roughed up tanks and then painted the Demolisher without the guards as a really heavily used and abused tank then you'd get a lovely contrast.

In my opinion the DKOK looks like a ww1 inspired army. And I think that without track guards make the tank look more ww1. So it would keep the force "together" for me to leave them off.
