Ok so of the three hours I spent at games workshop I played one 400 pt game.
It was me with
Hydra
Penal Legionare
Vet squad w/ chimera, meltaguns, demolitions and 'pace
He had three bikers, big ten man squad, and a five man squad w/ rocket launch
Ok so I set up with my hydra on a hill in the corner, legionares ready to scout into cover and chimera ready to move foward.
My opponent set up with marines in a corner, missile squad in the closest corner, and bikers in the middle.
He stole the initiative and a single krak missile blew my hydra up
His bikers moved fowards, shot at my legionares in cover & killed one, same with the 10 man squad.
Ok my first turn. Chimera moves 6" and pastes a biker with the multi-laser, the legionares move into a better cover position.
His turn 2. Missile team shakes the chimera, bikers shuffle around a little, big smurf squad moves foward.
My turn 2. Chimera makes a beeline for the missile team and pops smoke, the legionares kill one of the two remaining bikers, and the one left has an epileptic fit and retreats 13".
His turn 3. Fires Missile launcher at chimera which does nothing, moves bikers back to where they fled, fires a melta gun at chimera which is saved by smoke.
My turn 3. Chimera changes its mind and heads for the much juicier target of the big 10 man squad, moves 12", tank shocking the biker (passes), and pivots, unloading the vet squad. Penal troopers move into assault range. Vet squad lobs a demo charge and fires its meltaguns, wiping seven of the ten marines off the board. He makes his morale check and fails, moving out of penal troopers assault distance.
His turn 4. Missile Squad did diddly, the bikers and three man marine squad shot at and assaulted the vet squad, reducing it to three or four men.
My turn 4. Chimera tried moving, go immobilised, and shot at the missile team, killing one. Penal troopers charge into the melee, brandishing knives. Lose a few troopers, kill a marine. Lose combat by 2, pass leadership save.
His turn 5. ML squad shakes chimera, bikers and marines fail to kill the 3man vet squad, and all the marines get a knife to the face from teh penal troopers.
My turn 5. Put vets in chimera...then realise it's stunned. Move penal troopers closer to ML squad.
His turn 6. Shoots chimera, does nothing.
My turn 6. Penal troopers charge the three man missile squad, (15 attacks on the charge ) and get three rending hits.
End game result:
His casualties:
3 bikers - dead
15 marines - dead
- entire army - dead
My casualties
Hydra Flak tank - wrecked
chimera - immobilised
10 man vet squad - 3 survived
10 man penal squad - 5 survived
Close game, enjoyed by both of us throughout the entirety of it.
